Lu Sanzhu's mother understood her son well. She overheard his earlier words and immediately spoke without reservation, "What nonsense are you talking about? You just want to go back to Shishi Village to show off, right? I bet you'll also visit your in-laws. You have no shame."
Lu Sanzhu's face fell. It was clear that his mother knew him too well.
His mother continued, "If you're going to your in-laws, then go ahead. You've become the steward and got a raise in your wages, right? Bring them some gifts. Don't return empty-handed; it's a matter of reciprocation. If you don't bring anything, I won't lend you the mule cart."
Lu Sanzhu and Liang Shi exchanged glances and sighed. It seemed that showing off had its cost.
After Lu Sanzhu and Liang Shi left, Shu Yu and Grandma Lu decided to have a celebratory dinner for Lu Sanzhu. They didn't invite others; they would enjoy the meal by themselves.
As the days passed, Shu Yu's sister, Shu You, became increasingly nervous as her wedding day is approaching. She had trouble sleeping at night.
To help her relax, Shu Yu took her to visit the farm and workshop outside the city. She hoped that it would ease her sister's anxiety. Everything was prepared for the wedding, and Shu Yu wanted to ensure that her sister was in the right state of mind.
To help her sister further, Shu Yu obtained some calming incense from Zhao Xi and gave it to her.
After spending two relaxing days at the farm, the sisters returned home. As they reached the gate, they saw a familiar figure approaching. "Lu Xiangjun."
Shu Yu got off the cart and saw that it was Hu Li. She was surprised. "Why are you here?"
Seeing that they had something to discuss, Shu Yu nodded to Hu Li and said, "Come in. Let's talk inside."
Hu Li shook his head. "No need. I have something to do, so I'll just say a few words and leave."
"Alright."
Huli approached Shu You and lowered his voice. "Lu Xiangjun, do you remember asking me to keep an eye on potential buyers for the black market? There's news that someone in the capital is offering 25,000 taels to buy both the black market and the mountain."
Shu Yu furrowed her brows. "I remember the black market was priced at 32,000 taels. They want to cut down the price by 5,000 taels?"
Hu Li nodded. "Yes, but the mountain has been hard to sell, and it's been dragging on for some time. The higher-ups say that cutting 5,000 taels off the price might attract a buyer."
"The buyer is from the capital. Do they know what they intend to do with the black market and the estate?"
Hu Li's expression turned peculiar, and there was even a hint of sympathy in his eyes as he looked at Shu Yu.
