Tang's mother was still unaware that Xiang Weinan was the heir of the Marquis House in the capital, and Tang Wenqian didn't tell her about it. She believed that Xiang Weinan was merely the County Magistrate of Jiangyuan County and that he could only help her son to a limited extent. Therefore, she thought that marrying Shu Yu would be more advantageous, especially if they could get acquainted with Lord Qi.
However, before Tang Wenqian's mother could further contemplate, Shuyu left for the capital again.
When she finally returned, Tang Wenqian's mother was preparing herself to test the attitude of the Lu family. However, Gu Mama approached her before she had a chance.
Gu Mama naturally understood Tang's mother's thoughts and, after discussing it with Xiao Shi, they thought it was feasible, leading to this banquet.
Xiao Shi indeed thought highly of Tang Wenqian. Despite lacking resources, connections, and financial support, he achieved the status of a Jinshi at such a young age, which was quite remarkable.
"Ah Yu, what do you think?" Xiao Shi inquired.
Seeing that they had almost reached an agreement, Shu Yu pursed her lips and smiled, "I don't think it's a good idea."
Xiao Shi frowned, "You..."
"Madam, whether you believe it or not, I do have an engagement. However, he's been busy with important matters recently and is not in Jiangyuan County. Once he returns, we will finalize our engagement with our families," Shu Yu calmly explained.
Xiao Shi's smile faded slightly, and Shu Yu's address changed from "sister-in-law" back to "madam," a sign of estrangement that displeased her.
She had good intentions, yet the other party didn't appreciate it and even blamed her?
Xiao Shi's expression turned cold, and she leaned back slightly. After covering her mouth with a handkerchief, she removed it, and her eyes held no trace of mirth. She tugged her lips slightly and said, "Is that so? I wonder when the other party will return."
"Probably within half a month." In about twenty days, her sister would marry Zhao Xi, and Meng Yunzheng would surely attend the event.
Xiao Shi's squinted her eyes. She didn't expect Shu Yu to actually give a specific time.
"Really? Then I'll wait and see which young talent is lucky enough to win village Lord Lu's favor." She paused for a moment before adding in a slightly heavier tone, "I hope that village Lord Lu won't deceive me."
"Of course not. Madam will know when the time comes," Shu Yu replied before standing up. "I won't disturb you any longer. I'll take my leave."
Xiao Shi's expression turned colder as she nodded slightly. Shu Yu nodded back and left the pavilion.
She took Hua Xian, who had been standing nearby, with her.
There was another maidservant beside Hua Xian, whom Xiao Shi had brought along. When she saw Shu Yu leave expressionlessly, she hurried back to the pavilion.
Seeing Xiao Shi's unhappy expression, the maidservant knew that the negotiation hadn't gone smoothly.
She looked at Gu Mama, but the latter didn't look at her, only sighing and saying to Xiao Shi, "Young Miss, village Lord Lu obviously rejects this proposal. It seems it won't work out."
"Of course, she would reject it." Xiao Shi snorted, "How can Tang Wenqian compare to my husband's status and future prospects? With my husband's support, she naturally wouldn't be interested in others. To think she even fabricated a lie about being engaged."
The maidservant was slightly surprised by what she heard. "Village Lord Lu doesn't agree? Then, what do we do? Could she really be trying to snatch Lord Marquis?"
Neither Xiao Shi nor Gu Mama said anything, and the atmosphere in the pavilion became tense.
However, none of them knew that, just at the edge of the water by the pavilion, a head slowly emerged.
