Shu Yu wanted to say that there was no rush, but Xiao Shi continued speaking, seemingly unaware of her hesitation. "When my husband and I were betrothed, I was only sixteen years old."
However, due to various reasons, the marriage was delayed by a year after the betrothal.
Later on, when Xiang Weinan came to Jiangyuan County, she was left alone in the capital city, and they didn't have many opportunities to meet.
"Ah Yu, your current status as a village lord is not to be taken lightly in terms of marriage."
Shu Yu had a bad feeling about this conversation. "I won't take it lightly."
"My sister-in-law and I get along well, so let me speak candidly. Marriage for a woman is like being reborn for the second time; it's of utmost importance. While I was in the capital city, I witnessed many things, especially when it comes to people trying to climb the social ladder using all sorts of deceitful means, with their sweet words and deceptive appearances. As a village lord, there must be many people who want to marry into your family. You have to be careful."
Shu Yu chuckled nervously. "I understand, sister-in-law." She thought, "You really speak your mind."
"That's good to know. However, you don't need to worry excessively. Since I know many people, let me introduce someone to you."
Shu Yu's expression changed slightly. "No, no need. I've already..."
But Xiao Shi turned to her maid and asked, "Gu Mamma, tell me, among the young talents in the capital city, who is suitable?.
Gu Mamma chuckled and said, "Miss, the capital city is too far away. If village Lord Lu were to marry into the capital city, I'm afraid the Lu family wouldn't bear it. Moreover, village Lord Lu has built a workshop here in Jiangyuan County, which suggests she intends to do business here. Village lord, I wonder if this old servant's guess is correct?"
Shu Yu thought that Gu Mamma was quite tactful in her words. She understood that even though she held the position of a village lord and had a prestigious status in Jiangyuan County, if she were to go to the capital city, not many people would look favorably upon her, especially considering that she was known to be a prominent businesswoman.
She sighed, "Indeed, Jiangyuan County is good. Also, sister-in-law, my parents have already arranged my marriage."
"You're just trying to placate me with words. If you were truly engaged, wouldn't there be some rumors circulating? I know you are a young girl and might feel embarrassed to discuss such matters with me. But there's no need to be shy about it. This is a major decision that concerns your entire life, and you need to think it through carefully."
Xiao Shi furrowed her brows, "It's just that I've recently arrived in Jiangyuan County, and I don't know many people here. I'm really at a loss for suitable candidates."
Shu Yu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. If there were no suitable candidates, then it was for the best.
She thought that Xiao Shi was indeed a bold person to openly discuss her marriage plans like this. It was no wonder that she fell for Xiang Weinan and had Empress Xiao influence the Emperor's decision, which resulted in an imperial decree to marry him.
With the pace at which Xiao Shi was pushing, Shu Yu suspected that once she had a candidate in mind, she would probably be eager to see her married off as soon as possible. Despite Shu Yu's attempts to decline, Xiao Shi seemed persistent, as if she was eager to see her married to someone. Even when Shu Yu clearly stated that her marriage had already been arranged, Xiao Shi didn't seem to believe her.
Shu Yu wondered if it was just her imagination or if there was some underlying reason behind Xiao Shi's eagerness.
Just as she was pondering this, Gu Mamma smiled and said, "Miss, village Lord Lu, though I've recently arrived in Jiangyuan County, I have become acquainted with several young talents who frequent here. There's one person who seems to be a perfect match for village Lord Lu."
Shu Yu furrowed her brow, while Xiao Shi excitedly asked, "Who is it?"
Gu Mamma chuckled, "I believe village Lord Lu also knows this person."
Shu Yu narrowed her eyes. "Everyone in Jiangyuan County knows you. How could I not know this person too?"
