Xiao Yun lowered her voice, "I saw Qiu Ju and Chen Xiucai together, and they seemed... intimate."
She couldn't pinpoint exactly what made them appear intimate, but Qiu Ju's gestures, expressions, and the way she spoke seemed like she was intentionally trying to attract Chen Xiucai's attention.
Shu Yu raised an eyebrow, "Are you suggesting that Qiu Ju deliberately kept it a secret, wanting to continue with the birthday banquet and then embarrass herself, even leading to conflicts with her husband, all for her own gain?"
Xiao Yun thought along those lines, but she felt hesitant as it seemed a bit presumptuous, "Perhaps?"
Ding Yuehua interjected, "No 'perhaps,' it's definitely what she's doing."
She looked at Xiao Yun, "You knew about it yesterday, why didn't you tell me?"
Xiao Yun felt a bit helpless, "Miss, I wanted to tell you as soon as I returned, but when I mentioned Madame Chen's name, you said not to bring it up anymore since you have severed ties with her."
Xiao Yun noticed that ever since miss Lu returned, Miss seemed quite happy and didn't want to be reminded of unpleasant matters.
It was unexpected that the situation would coincide like this today, bringing it up again.
Ding Yuehua snorted, "Serves her right. She didn't trust me and had impure intentions."
That being said, Ding Yuehua still felt uneasy about Qiu Ju's behavior. After all, they had been friends for many years, and even though she knew about her questionable character, it didn't sit well with her to be manipulated by a servant.
She hesitated, "Should I go and remind her?"
Shu Yu glanced at her, "Do you think she will believe you or Qiu Ju?"
Ding Yuehua replied decisively, "Forget it, there's no point. We've already fallen out, and it's none of our business how she lives her life. Whether it's good or bad, it's all a result of her own character."
Shu Yu smiled, "Exactly, who cares? I have a feeling that when Qiu Ju becomes more influential, these two will be at each other's throats."
Although Shu Yu had no personal conflicts with Kong Zhi You, the fact that she invited guests using her name did disgust her.
Ding Yue Hua linked her arm with Shu Yu's, "Let's not mention her anymore. Let's go inside; I wonder if the County magistrate's wife has arrived."
They were certain that Xiao Shi wouldn't be here. Not only was there no one in Jiangyuan County with a higher status than her, even in the capital city, she was a distinguished lady of the prestigious Xiao family and the wife of the heir. Therefore, as the hostess of today's banquet, she would have others wait for her rather than waiting for someone else.
However, as everyone knew about the banquet, the guests arrived early. Shu Yu thought they arrived at a decent time, but to her surprise, the peach blossom forest was already crowded when they entered.
The location of the banquet was on the southwest side of the peach blossom forest, which provided a private and elegant setting. It was surrounded by water on two sides, and high walls on the other two sides, with only one pathway leading in from the outside. This ensured that once they were inside, no one else could enter.
Shu Yu and Ding Yuehua presented their invitations and stepped into the peach forest. Xiao Shi had not arrived yet, making Shu Yu the center of attention.
She had hoped to find a quiet corner with Ding Yuehua to sit, have some tea, and chat. However, as soon as they appeared, they were immediately surrounded by a crowd of people.
Shu Yu felt a bit dazed, and it was Ding Yuehua who seemed to recall something. She slapped her forehead and murmured, "How could I almost forget about this?"
