Xiao Ya'er was startled, and Shu Yu furrowed her brows, looking in the direction of the sound.
It seemed to be coming from the kitchen.
Shu Yu wanted to go and check, but as she took only a few steps, she saw someone coming out from the main room, hurrying towards the kitchen.
But after walking a few steps, the person spotted Shu Yu standing in the yard and stared at her in astonishment.
Then, she turned on her heels and walked straight towards Shu Yu.
"Ah Yu, when did you come back?"
Shu Yu buried her head in Song Le's embrace and began talking to Zhou Qiao, "Just arrived. I haven't gone home yet, so I came over after passing by the estate."
After giving Zhou Qiao a strange look for a while, she asked, "Are you...?"
Zhou Qiao blushed and replied, "You figured it out? I'm pregnant. I found out not long after you left, and now it's been four months."
Shu Yu opened her mouth wide, staring at her belly.
No wonder she thought Zhou Qiao had gained weight and her belly had started showing a bit. It was just that the weather had turned cooler, and Zhou Qiao was dressed more thickly, so it wasn't immediately apparent.
After the initial daze, Shu Yu smiled and said, "Then, let me congratulate my sister-in-law."
Zhou Qiao smiled in return, but then her gaze fell on little Song Le in Shu Yu's arms, and she looked a bit puzzled. "Who is this?"
"This is Song Le, Meng Yunzheng's cousin. It's a long story, you'll know later."
As she spoke, Shu Yu gently bounced little Song Le.
Zhou Qiao led them inside and said, "You just arrived after a long journey; you must be tired. Let's go to the main room and talk."
Shu Yu wasn't tired, but carrying little Song Le for too long was indeed making her arms ache. Before, Zhao Xi and the others would take turns carrying him or let him walk by himself.
However, when she carried him down from the carriage earlier, he clung tightly to her neck upon seeing Xiao Ya. This reaction made her a bit concerned, so she abandoned the idea of letting him walk and carried him all the way inside.
As they walked, Shu Yu asked, "What's happening in the kitchen? Should we go check?"
At the mention of that, Zhou Qiao looked a bit distressed. She poured a cup of tea for Shu Yu and waved her hand, saying, "It's probably nothing serious, just that my mother-in-law and my second aunt got into an argument."
"You mean... your mother-in-law... and your second aunt are both here?"
Leaving the mother-in-law aside, Shu Yu had seen Zhou Qiao's second aunt. When she had just returned from exile, she went directly to the clothing store and happened to overhear Zhou Qiao's second aunt badmouthing her behind her back. She was even advising Zhou Qiao to divorce Da Niu and remarry.
After that incident, she never saw Zhou Qiao's second aunt again and didn't know if it was because of embarrassment or fear.
Now, from Zhou Qiao's words, it seemed that her mother-in-law and second aunt were at odds?
Zhou Qiao explained, "Because of my pregnancy, both my mother-in-law and second aunt came to see me, saying they wanted to take care of me. But as soon as the two of them met, they started arguing, and they've already had three or four quarrels."
"They... are staying in the village?"
"Not at all," Zhou Qiao shook her head, "They both arrived yesterday afternoon and only stayed for one day."
"Stayed for just one day and already had three or four quarrels?" These two seemed to be natural enemies, no wonder Zhou Qiao looked so distressed when talking about it.
