San Lai Zi whispered, "He's in a coma and has a high fever. He won't live much longer anyway."
He glanced up and lowered his voice even more, "We thought of taking him out and leaving him somewhere. Let him live or die on his own, and then our group can move in early."
Shu Yu looked at them with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
San Lai Zi's heart skipped a beat, "You don't believe me?"
"I don't," she replied.
"But I'm telling the truth, really." He pointed to his companions behind him, "You can ask them; I'm not lying to you."
Shu Yu sighed. Ying Xi had already brought over a stool, and Shu Yu gave her a look of approval before sitting down comfortably. Only then did she ask, "So, you're saying you're telling the truth. Can you tell me the origin of this Escort Agency? You few ruffians dare to have your eyes on this place? Are you trying to fool me? Aren't you afraid of the high-ranking official in the capital?"
The waiter behind her nodded vigorously. That was right; this house was related to the capital's official, master Gong, and almost everyone in Tianning County knew about it.
Although some people had tried to target this house before, they were people with some strength, planning to take it through legitimate channels. But these small-time ruffians like San Lai Zi thought they could just claim the house after the old beggar's death? What a ridiculous idea!
San Lai Zi subconsciously replied, "Didn't that official in the capital get beheaded?"
Shu Yu narrowed her eyes, "How do you know he was beheaded?"
The waiter widened his eyes, "Master Gong was beheaded? When did that happen?"
News didn't spread quickly these days. Although the incident with Gong Qiu had caused quite a stir, Shu Yu was sure that in this small county like Tianning, the news had not reached the point where everyone knew about it within a month.
See, even this restaurant waiter hadn't heard about it yet.
San Lai Zi finally realized that he had spoken too quickly and quickly lowered his head.
"You won't talk? Then I'll have to use some torture." Shu Yu stood up and stepped on his hand, slowly crushing it.
San Lai Zi's face changed drastically, "Ah, it hurts, don't step on it. I'll talk, I'll talk, okay?"
As a small-time ruffian, he didn't have much backbone. He would confess everything under a little pressure.
Taking a deep breath, he began, "We didn't find anything to do in the county, so we thought of going to the capital. It's bustling on the docks, and we might find some work there. So a few days ago, we went to the capital."
The waiter sneered. What couldn't they find to do in the county? The townsfolk knew about their deeds, so whenever they approached, people would steer clear. So, San Lai Zi and his gang went to the capital to steal and rob, right?
"Huajiang Prefecture is prosperous, with ships constantly coming and going on the docks. When we were in the capital, we accidentally offended someone. That person was about to hand us over to the authorities. Later, he said he could give us a chance. If we can take over this Escort Agency, he'll not only let us go but also give us a sum of silver."
"But this Escort Agency is guarded by that old beggar, and it's also connected to the official in the capital. We dare not touch it. Then that person told us that the official in the capital had been beheaded, and all we had to do was deal with the old beggar."
