Chu Xian was Meng Pei's good friend. When Meng Pei rescued Song Xin from the Liu family, he temporarily stayed at Chu Xian's house. Chu Xian was the one who informed Meng Pei about the news of the Gong family's beheading, leading him to rush to the capital.
Although Shu Yu knew many people in the capital, neither the Yao family nor the Qi family was suitable for passing a message to Aunt Hong.
After listening, Aunt Hong nodded and said, "Alright, if there's any news about Wei Shi, I'll let you know right away."
Shu Yu thanked her and then took out the silver ticket that Meng Yunzheng had given her.
"Here are thirty taels of silver. It's from Gouwa's uncle, who asked me to give it to you. You've worked hard taking care of Dazhuang and Gouwa all these years."
Aunt Hong frowned, "What are you doing? I don't want it. Whether it's taking care of Dazhuang or Gouwa, it was our decision as a couple. Giving us money seems like you're trying to buy our feelings."
Although she was tempted by the silver, she was still angry.
Shu Yu chuckled, "Auntie, you misunderstood. We don't mean that. We just understand your situation and know that it's not easy for you. Having some money on hand will always come in handy. If you encounter any difficulties in the future, you don't need to trouble the younger generation, right? When Gouwa comes back in four years, and he sees you living well and healthy, he'll be happy too."
Aunt Hong pursed her lips. This girl spoke so nicely, not directly mentioning the mess in the Hong family or that her children might not be filial. But she understood what she meant. She thought of her family's situation and looked at Gouwa's innocent expression. After a moment of hesitation, she gritted her teeth and accepted the silver ticket.
"Alright, I'll accept it then. Thank you."
"No need to thank me. Just take good care of yourself. Hide the money well, and treat yourself to some nice food." Shu Yu stood up and said, "It's getting late, and we should leave."
Aunt Hong's emotions, which had just stabilized, were now difficult to control again. She hugged Gouwa in her arms, took a deep breath, and then handed him to Shu Yu, "Then, please take good care of Gouwa."
Shu Yu carried the child and walked towards the door.
In the courtyard, she happened to see Aunt Hong's daughter-in-law entering with her three children.
When they saw them coming out, Aunt Hong's family of four was stunned.
The young woman asked in surprise, "You... are you leaving?"
Shu Yu nodded indifferently, "We need to hurry on our way, so we won't delay any longer."
After saying that, she left with Ying Xi, and the young woman couldn't stop them.
After they left, the children immediately started clamoring, "Mom, didn't you say there would be candy? Where's the candy?"
The young woman looked at Aunt Hong, who wiped the corners of her eyes. She snorted coldly, "What are you looking at me for? Gouwa stuffed one in my mouth, and I ate it a long time ago."
The young woman stomped her foot hard, "Then, didn't the girl seem quite rich? How come she didn't even bring us a box of snacks?"
She suspiciously eyed Aunt Hong, "Could it be that she secretly gave you something good, and you hid it?"
Aunt Hong was angry and fell backward, "Go and see if I have hidden anything. You're thinking too much. We just sent Gouwa over yesterday, and it's already good enough that he didn't come back to hold us accountable. And you're expecting her to come to our house with gifts? Dream on."
