Shu Yu shook her head, "Leaving capital was decided earlier. To be honest, if you had sent Gouwa even one day later, we would have missed him."
Aunt Hong was stunned, and the young woman beside her was relieved.
Luckily, they sent Gouwa a day earlier; otherwise, he would have had nowhere to stay and would have been sent back by her mother-in-law.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but smile.
However, Aunt Hong's expression was quite the opposite. She seemed dazed and only spoke softly after a while, "Then, where are you going after leaving the capital? Will you come back later?"
Shu Yu didn't hide anything from her, "We're going to Dong'an Prefecture. As for returning to capital..."
She paused, then smiled and said, "We will definitely come back, but it might be a while. I can only tell you that at the latest, it will be in four years. We will return to capital. By then, Gouwa will be six or seven years old, and we'll bring him back to see you."
She didn't mention other things, but with Meng Yunzheng planning to take the exam next year, given his level of knowledge, he probably wouldn't need to retake it. From the county exam to the provincial, metropolitan, and palace exams, they all eventually had to go to capital.
Aunt Hong breathed a sigh of relief, "That... that's fine then."
Four years would pass in the blink of an eye, and she could wait for that long.
She lowered her head to look at Gouwa who happened to lift his head and blinked his eyes. He suddenly seemed to think of something and reached out to pull her sleeve.
Aunt Hong crouched down and affectionately touched his head, "Don't be afraid. Look, your uncle bought you new clothes. You'll have a good life following them, even if you leave Beijing."
But Dog Wa lowered his head, and his little hand reached into his pocket. After a moment, he took out a piece of candy from it and stuffed it into Aunt Hong's mouth without waiting for her reaction.
The sweet taste instantly filled her mouth, and Aunt Hong was taken aback.
She looked at Gouwa and then at Shu Yu, who smiled and said, "I bought some snacks for him. Although Gouwa doesn't talk, he obviously likes you, so he gave you some to eat."
Aunt Hong couldn't hold back her tears any longer and burst into tears.
She reached out and hugged Gouwa's small body, saying, "Gouwaa, don't blame your aunt and uncle. Your aunt and uncle have no choice. In the future, you have to be good."
The young woman looked on with a tinge of jealousy. She stared at the little pocket for a while, confirming there were still plenty of candies inside. Immediately, she said to Aunt Hong, "Mom, don't cry anymore. You'll frighten Gouwa. He's going to a better place. Don't bring any bad luck. Since Gouwa will be gone for a few years, I'll go and bring back his cousins to bid him farewell."
After saying that, she left.
Aunt Hong knew exactly what she was thinking. She wanted to take advantage of the situation and grab a few more things from Gouwas pocket.
She wanted to call them back, but Shu Yu smiled and spoke, "Auntie, I have one more thing to ask you to help with this time."
"Hmm? Please tell me." Aunt Hong quickly got up and sat on a small stool, hugging Gouwa along the way.
Taking advantage of the fact that the person had not left, she hugged him again.
Shu Yu said, "I'd like you to keep an eye out for any news about Gouwa's mother. If you hear anything about her, please send us a message."
"But... but I can't write a letter." Aunt Hong was a little helpless.
"That's okay. Just go to No. 79 in Daxi River Lane in the southern part of the city and find someone named Chu Xian. He will help us send the message."
