Over the course of ten years, Meng Pei and Song Xin had learned quite a bit about the Song family from Song Xin's accounts.
Song Xin had a difficult time in the Song family, but Song Qing was the only one who showed her kindness. He was the only relative she cared about. Although she didn't approve of his elopement later on, she couldn't help but feel relieved when he left.
Unexpectedly, he returned to the capital a few months before the attack on the Song family by Palace Qiu.
Among all the members of the Song family, Song Qing's family of three was truly innocent.
Now that he knew Song Qing's descendants were still alive and standing right in front of him, Meng Pei couldn't ignore the situation.
Especially this child in front of him, who seemed to be living a tough life.
Aunt Hong didn't know who Meng Pei was, but from his appearance, he seemed like someone with decision-making authority. Furthermore, after he spoke, Meng Yunzheng didn't object, and the others didn't raise any objections either.
As everyone in the room continued to stare at her, Aunt Hong felt a bit hesitant. It seemed like if she didn't explain clearly, they wouldn't leave the child with her.
She could only grit her teeth and say, "Alright, let me tell you the truth. This wooden bead is probably left by the murderer who killed the Song family."
"What did you say?" Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu exchanged glances, implying that this bead was related to Gong Qiu?
Aunt Hong hesitated and said, "Others say the fire was an accident, and even the officials ruled it as a case of improper use of fire by the Song family. But my husband and I thought it was suspicious. Even if it was an accident, it's impossible for everyone to sleep through it and not escape, right? There must be someone who had a grudge against the Song family and wanted to silence them, and it dragged down my little sister..."
She wanted to complain, but when she remembered that the child in front of her was Song Xin's son, she didn't continue. She just said, "We're just ordinary folks. Being able to keep Dazhuang is already a precarious situation for us. How could we dare to investigate the case and find the murderer who killed the entire Song family? Whoever could kill everyone from the Song family must have some power, and we can't fight against them."
Taking Dazhuang back home was already the most dangerous thing they could do.
Perhaps Dazhuang became foolish or maybe it was because he was only a little over one year old at that time, and the other party didn't see him as a threat, so the child grew up safely.
Aunt Hong pointed to the small hand tightly gripping the wooden bead and said, "This wooden bead he's holding now was in Dazhuang's hand when we rescued him. I thought that since the deaths of the Song family were unclear, and Dazhuang was hidden by his father or mother, the parents would surely leave some clues of the culprit when faced with a great disaster. This bead must be related to the murderer."
This was her guess, and her husband also mentioned that the bead seemed valuable, likely made from high-quality wood. The Song family was so poor, where would they get the silver for it?
Aunt Hong had originally planned to throw away the wooden bead. After all, it was a dangerous item. What if it brought calamity to their family?
But her husband didn't agree and insisted on hiding the bead.
"After ten years, we almost forgot about the bead. Then we suddenly found that Dazhuang had one hanging on his neck. We didn't know when he had taken out the wooden bead. When we wanted to put it away again, he objected."
Thankfully, although Dazhuang was foolish, he was obedient.
When they told him that no one could see the bead, he didn't carry it with him but kept it in the room.
