The two middle-aged men also looked a little stunned when they saw her and took a step back, checking the doorplate number.
"We didn't make a mistake..."
The tall man, who was the one speaking, slightly softened his expression and asked politely, "Miss, does Meng Yunzheng live here?"
Shu Yu sized them up, wondering who would be visiting at this hour in the capital. Especially these two, who didn't seem like officials from the court, and they were carrying packages...
Wait, packages?
Shu Yu's eyes widened suddenly, and she felt a little nervous.
What should she do? Meng Yunzheng and Zhao Xi were both not here, but their father and master had come.
Right on cue, Ying Xi came over and called her, "Miss?"
Shu Yu quickly snapped out of it, steadying herself, and smiled as she addressed the two men at the door, "This is Meng Yunzheng's home. May I ask how I should address you both?"
"I am surnamed Meng, and this is Old Zhao, the doctor. How may I address you?" The tall man answered.
Shu Yu thought to herself, "As expected, it's them!"
She stepped back a few steps and said, "So you are Uncle Meng and Uncle Zhao. Please come in. Meng Yunzheng and Zhao Xi went out and haven't returned yet."
She invited the two men in and quickly had Yingxi prepare tea for them.
After they were seated, she introduced herself, "My surname is Lu, and I am the second daughter in the family. You can call me Shu Yu."
Just as she finished introducing herself, Meng Pei stood up excitedly, "You, you are Shu Yu? Yunzheng's fiancée?"
Shu Yu replied, "Yes, that's me."
Meng Pei laughed heartily, appraising Shu Yu with his eyes, "A good girl, very spirited and beautiful. You and Yunzheng are truly a talented couple."
Shu Yu coughed twice, not expecting to meet her future father-in-law so suddenly. She wasn't prepared for this.
But Meng Pei was very pleased; his personality was straightforward, and the more he looked at Shu Yu, the more satisfied he felt. He then asked curiously, "I heard about what happened in the capital. Yunzheng shouldn't have brought you here, so why are you here?"
He had always thought that Shu Yu was still in Dong'an Prefecture, so when she opened the door, Meng Pei didn't think much of her.
Of course, he didn't believe that Meng Yunzheng would be fooling around and hiding another girl here.
Thus, his first reaction was that he might have gone to the wrong place.
Shu Yu explained the situation about how she was worried about Meng Yunzheng and followed him to the capital.
Meng Pei became even more delighted, "Not bad, not bad. You have courage and deep affection. A heroine among women. You and Yunzheng are indeed a perfect match. Our ancestors must have burned incense for this blessing."
Shu Yu, "..."
Facing this kind of Meng Pei, she was at a loss for words.
Old Zhao, who was beside him, looked at him disdainfully, "A rough man will always be a rough man. If you can't speak, then don't blabber, or else you might scare the little girl."
After speaking, he quickly put on a smiling face and asked, "So, you're Shu Yu, right? How are your older sister and younger sister doing?"
Shu Yu couldn't help but swallow hard and forced a smile, "They... they are doing well."
"I received a letter from that brat Zhao Xi, saying that he's already engaged to your older sister. He didn't cause any trouble, right?" Old Zhao inquired.
Shu Yu quickly shook her head, "No, everything went smoothly."
"That's good. Speaking of which, now that your older sister is my disciple's wife, and your younger sister is about to become my disciple, we..." Doctor Zhao was interrupted by Meng Pei's sudden outburst, "Are you done? She's my daughter-in-law, and I haven't even said a few words yet, so what are you trying to steal? You're so clueless."
