Zhu mama stood behind, slightly lowering her head, thinking to herself, "Hasn't she come here a long time ago? She came on the same boat as the Young Master and the others."
Not only that, she came to the mansion the next day, but was driven away by the Young Master.
Zhu mama secretly looked at Shu Yu, unsure if the young lady would report to the Master.
Shu Yu had no intention of reporting. This matter probably didn't require her to speak up; Madam Yao would naturally discuss it with Yao Tianqin.
Thus, she just smiled and nodded, "Indeed, I've been here for some time, but I rarely go out because of the recent chaos in the capital."
Yao Tianqin disagreed, "If it's chaotic outside, you should come to our home even more. You are unfamiliar with the ways of the capital; staying here will ensure your well-being."
As he spoke, he thought about the cousins who were still living in the mansion and frowned.
Forget it, if Shu Yu were to stay here, I'm afraid it wouldn't be peaceful either.
He didn't bring it up again and instead asked, "Where have you been staying these days? At an inn? Did you encounter any troubles outside?"
"No, as soon as I arrived in the capital, I ran into Madam Jing from the Ministry of Justice. I had met her before, and she invited me to her residence. So, I've been staying at the Jing Mansion," Shu Yu replied.
Yao Tianqin paused, stunned in his tracks.
She had met Madam Jing once and was invited to stay at the Jing Mansion?
Both Minister Jing and Madam Jing weren't the type of benevolent people who casually welcomed strangers. Visiting as a guest might be acceptable, but staying for such a long time was rare, not to mention the current chaotic situation.
He couldn't help but look at Shu Yu with a somewhat envious gaze, sighing with emotion, "Indeed, you are not an ordinary person, Ah Yu."
She could adapt well wherever she went and never had to worry about being taken care of.
Seeing Yao Tianqin's envy, Shu Yu was momentarily at a loss for words.
Oh right, she forgot; from some perspectives, Uncle Yao was a bit socially anxious.
She couldn't help but laugh, and the two of them had already reached the entrance to the main hall.
However, by this time, many people had already gathered in the main hall.
Madam Yao and Kang Shi had heard that the girl from earlier had returned, so they deliberately waited here.
But who would have thought that not long after they arrived, Yao An and Yao Hong also came, and not just them, but also Yao Hong's cousin, Wang Jiayi.
The servants in the Yao family were not numerous, but when Yao An and the others came, they brought seven or eight attendants with them, displaying their influence.
These attendants weren't just serving their masters; they were also observing the situation in the mansion.
Sure enough, as soon as Shu Yu arrived, Yao An and the others received the news and hurried over.
Although Yao An and Yao Hong had seen Shu Yu leaving with Madam Jing at the entrance before, they still didn't think she had any strong backing.
Otherwise, how could she travel with only a maid who had no proper manners by her side?
And saying that she couldn't secure a cabin on the ship because of the lack of time, that was just ridiculous.
If she was really from a prestigious family, arrangements for her trip would have been made well in advance. Even if she were from a less wealthy family, she wouldn't be able to bear living in the cramped and foul-smelling cabin, with a mix of people. Which respectable girl could endure that?
Even if she knew Madam Jing, so what? Who knew what lucky break she had that allowed her to be associated with Madam Jing? Even if she managed to associate with her, it didn't mean she would give up on the Yao family now.
