As Meng Yunzheng spoke, his eyes turned slightly red as he recalled the events from the past, still emotionally affected by them.
The emperor gazed steadily at him. Although the timeline and cause-and-effect relationship Meng Yunzheng presented seemed to align, there was still a lingering doubt in the emperor's mind.
"Who told you all these things?" the emperor asked.
"My mother did," Meng Yunzheng replied. "She knew how ruthless and cruel Gong Qiu could be, so as a precaution, she explained everything to me and asked me to impersonate Gong Qiu's son if things got dangerous—to at least ensure my safety. So, on the day I met Gongqiu's confidant, she specifically sought out the midwife who had delivered me and gave her some silver, asking her to claim that I was born at full term if someone inquired."
He smiled wryly, "My mother understood Gong Qiu too well, and over the years, she had been keeping an eye on the affairs of the palace. She knew Gong Qiu had only one son and one daughter and lacked many heirs. If I became Gong Qiu's supposed son, he would surely spare my life."
The emperor felt a tickle in his throat and coughed twice, "Even if your mother bribed the midwife, Gong Qiu wouldn't easily believe it with his cautious nature, right?"
"We conducted a blood test to prove our relationship," Meng Yunzheng stated.
The emperor raised an eyebrow, "So, you mean your blood was compatible, and that's why you say you're not Gong Qiu's son?"
Meng Yunzheng slowly raised his head, "Because the blood test for proving parentage isn't accurate. Not only Gong Qiu, but even my blood might be compatible with that of Minister Xi."
"What are you saying?!" The emperor's brows furrowed deeply, "Are you sure the blood test for proving parentage isn't accurate?!"
"Yes, I can demonstrate it right now."
The emperor's expression turned serious, and he signaled to Xi Ping with his eyes.
Xi Ping immediately left the room and brought back a bowl of water. He then pricked his finger, allowing a drop of blood to fall into the bowl. Following suit, Meng Yunzheng also pricked his fingertip and added a drop of blood to the bowl.
As the two drops of blood mixed in the bowl, the blood began to react strangely.
Xi Ping widened his eyes and involuntarily exclaimed, "Heavens, they actually fused together!"
His voice was high-pitched and sharp, and in such a surprised state, he exaggerated the incredible effect.
The emperor couldn't wait any longer and stood up, even though he felt uncomfortable due to his health. He took a few steps to approach the bowl of blood, watching the mixture change with a change of expression.
So, even if they weren't father and son, their blood could still merge together.
The emperor suddenly remembered the scene from a few days ago when he conducted the blood test with the Second Prince. At that time, the Second Prince seemed somewhat irritated and nervous. Before conducting the blood test, he hesitated for a moment.
