Shu Yu said, "The situation in the capital was chaotic recently, so I felt it wouldn't be appropriate to come to you at that time. But now that things have settled down, I am indeed planning to visit you."
As she spoke, she got up and brought a package from the nearby room.
"I also want to thank you for the gift you sent me for my coming-of-age ceremony. I really liked it. My parents have also prepared some special products from Jiangyuan County. We initially wanted to bring them to you last time."
Qi Chan didn't bother with pleasantries and accepted the gift, handing it to the attendants in the courtyard.
After some casual conversation, Qi Chan finally remembered his purpose for coming here.
He looked at Meng Yunzheng, who had been silent in the background, feeling a bit hesitant.
Originally, he did want to persuade Meng Yunzheng to stay in the capital and serve as an official. He had even prepared his reasons and persuading methods, feeling that it shouldn't be difficult. However, seeing Shu Yu, he inexplicably felt that the chances of success were slim.
Nevertheless, Qishan still felt a bit regretful and wanted to give it a try.
"Young Master Meng, are you really not planning to stay in the capital?" Qishan asked.
Meng Yunzheng smiled, "Minister Qi, I've already considered it thoroughly."
Qi Chan looked at Shu Yu and asked, "Aren't you going to persuade him?"
Shu Yu chuckled, "Minister Qi, we have our own plans. But I can assure you that his talent won't be wasted."
Qi Chan raised an eyebrow. Did that mean Meng Yunzheng wouldn't spend his entire life being mediocre in a small county?
With the matter discussed to this extent, Qi Chan knew that further persuasion would be futile.
"Alright, both of you are clever and capable. With you together, even in a small county, I'm afraid you will still create quite a stir."
Shu Yu, "..."
Why did that not sound like a compliment?
As it was getting late, Qi Chan prepared to leave. He didn't insist on persuading Meng Yunzheng further, and both Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng breathed a sigh of relief.
After meeting Qi Chan, Shu Yu had no intention of going to the Qi Chan residence again. However, she wanted to visit the Yao residence.
Since she had come to the capital, Lu Erbai also gave her a drawing to show Yao Tianqin.
However, she didn't know if those annoying people from the Yao family were still there.
The next day, Shu Yu, accompanied by Ying Xi, brought the package and headed to the Yao residence again.
This time, they didn't need to inquire at the gate; as soon as the gatekeeper saw Ying Xi, he immediately said, "Miss, please wait a moment. I'll inform the master."
Shu Yu and Ying Xi exchanged glances, and the gatekeeper quickly went inside.
After a while, he came out again, accompanied by an old maid.
The old maid smiled and approached, "I am surnamed Zhu, but you can call me Zhu mama. Madam asked me to welcome you inside, please come in, Miss."
Shu Yu was taken aback for a moment but then smiled, "Please lead the way, Zhu mama."
"Miss, you're too polite." Zhu mama led the way while subtly observing Shu Yu.
Seeing the gift box in Ying Xi's hands, her smile grew broader, and she asked softly, "I wonder what's Miss's name, and where are you coming from?"
After the incident when Shu Yu came here last time, Madam specially asked the young master how he knew her.
However, the young master didn't utter a single word of truth. He claimed that Shu Yu followed him here, playing hard to get, and trying to get close to him, intending to climb up the social ladder.
Madam was annoyed by his response and didn't get any useful information, so she didn't bother asking further.
