All of Gong Qiu's last resort was used on the prison break, but it was ultimately thwarted by the Fifth Prince.
Of course, these were all matters of later days.
At this moment, when Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu returned to the small courtyard, they saw Ying Xi coming back with a gloomy expression, as if she had encountered something unpleasant.
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged a glance, "What happened?"
Then, Zhao Xi, who came in after Ying Xi, sighed, "What else could it be? People outside are cursing Ah Yun for being ungrateful. They say he actually sent his father to prison with his own hands, leading to the destruction of the entire Gong family. Such an unfilial person will undoubtedly be struck by lightning and will never have children."
Shu Yu said, "...There's no need to repeat the last sentence."
Ying Xi sneered, "They are the ones without any descendants."
Shu Yu turned her head to look at her. So, you are concerned about this point?
Of course, Ying Xi was concerned about it. Her young lady was going to marry Meng Yunzheng in the future. Cursing Meng Yunzheng's children would be cursing her young lady as well.
Shu Yu rubbed her forehead, feeling a bit exhausted.
She asked Zhao Xi, "What are people saying now?"
"What else can they say? The common people praise Ah Yun for eliminating an evil official like Gongqiu, who embezzled and framed innocent lives. According to the laws of Da Su, such corrupt officials should be sentenced to beheading. They say Ah Yun did well."
It was only natural for the common people to feel that way. With one less corrupt official, they would face less exploitation.
It was related to their own interests. How could they not be happy and praise the person who exposed the corrupt official?
However, the aristocratic families in the capital had a different opinion. They only felt that Meng Yunzheng was too ruthless and his methods were too vicious. He didn't even spare his own father, showing a lack of filial piety.
They also believed that he had learned about Gong Qiu's impending arrest and betrayed his father to save himself, which they saw as selfish and treacherous behavior.
In short, Meng Yunzheng, who had always been inconspicuous, had now become known to everyone in the capital, from the emperor and his concubines to the beggars on the street.
His evaluation was mixed, with both praise and criticism.
However, after the exposure of Meng Yunzheng's identity in the Supreme Court, the public opinion quickly turned in his favor.
People learned that Meng Yunzheng was not Gong Qiu's son, and that Gong Qiu was actually his mother's killer. He had pretended to be clueless and bided his time for many years, all to personally avenge his mother.
After eleven years, he finally gathered enough evidence of Gong Qiu's crimes and presented it to the emperor, finally avenging his mother.
People now believed that he was a filial son with deep emotions. At such a young age, he could endure humiliation and carry heavy burdens. Such character and endurance would undoubtedly lead to a promising future.
After this incident, this previously unknown young man was likely to quickly rise to prominence in the capital and even in the court.
Many people were waiting, waiting for Meng Yunzheng to soar to new heights and enter the court.
Even the emperor thought that he wanted to achieve something great.
He had contributed by reporting Gong Qiu's crimes, and since the Gong Qiu incident had been resolved, it was natural to reward those who had made contributions.
Meng Yunzheng was summoned to the palace by the emperor. As he looked at this young man who seemed completely different after seeking revenge, the emperor was slightly surprised and asked in a deep voice, "Meng Yunzheng, you have made a contribution. Have you thought about what reward you want?"
