Shu Yu waved at him, "Come here, I'll give you a makeover too. We're going to the prison of the Supreme Court later."
Meng Yunzheng was puzzled, "Why are we going to the Supreme Court prison?"
Shu Yu stopped her movements and whispered, "To see Gong Qiu."
"Huh?"
"To add one last assurance for you." Shu Yu blinked at him and then turned her head to continue dressing up.
Meng Yunzheng raised an eyebrow, adding one last assurance?
He didn't ask further and allowed Shu Yu to continue applying makeup on his face.
As he watched her face so close to his, especially the little black mole on her chin, he couldn't help but smile.
Shu Yu lightly hit him, "Don't move, your eyebrows almost got crooked."
"Cough." Meng Yunzheng dared not move again; she could do whatever she wanted.
Both of them disguised themselves with ordinary appearances that wouldn't be easily recognized in a crowd.
At this critical moment, there might still be people secretly watching them. Therefore, for safety, they both wore hoods when leaving. They then boarded a carriage driven by Zhao Xi and headed to the backyard of a restaurant near the Supreme Court.
After spending half an hour inside the restaurant, Zhao Xi led them out, directly returning to the small courtyard in the south of the city, as if the three of them had just come out to eat.
Nobody knew that the two who came out of the restaurant had already switched places.
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng changed into the clothes of the janitors in the Supreme Court, carrying a pass that allowed them in and out, and quietly entered the Supreme Court.
Afterwards, they changed into the clothes of the attendants beside Minister Jing and followed him into the prison of the Supreme Court.
Minister Jing said as they walked, "You won't have much time. Gong Qiu is being kept in solitary confinement, guarded by men of the Fifth Prince. You can rest assured. However, the Ministry of Justice has been keeping an eye on him, so I can only give you fifteen minutes. Be quick."
Fortunately, the plot of Gong Qiu's rebellion was handled by the Fifth Prince, who was their ally, which gave them this opportunity.
Meng Yunzheng whispered his thanks.
The group soon arrived at the prison cell where Gong Qiu was being held. The guards nodded slightly upon seeing Minister Jing, likely having received orders from the Fifth Prince, and they didn't say anything. Instead, they walked to a corner and kept watch from there.
Minister Jing also stepped back a few steps, giving them space to talk.
Gong Qiu was crouched in the corner of the cell, not reacting even when he heard the footsteps. He seemed indifferent.
Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu stood outside the cell and could vaguely see the figure in the corner.
It seemed that Gong Qiu was being treated relatively well during the trial; aside from being a bit dirty, there were no signs of physical torture on his body.
Meng Yunzheng coldly observed him, and Shu Yu tugged at his sleeve, urging him to speak.
"Gong Qiu."
At first, the person in the corner didn't react, but soon he recognized the owner of the voice. He suddenly stiffened and turned his head around.
The two faces at the cell door were very unfamiliar to him; he didn't know them.
When Meng Yunzheng spoke again, he finally confirmed that it wasn't an illusion. He suddenly stood up, dragging his shackles, and walked towards the door.
When he reached them, he slapped the railing heavily with both hands, his eyes sharp, and his voice hoarse, "Gong Xiao! You still have the audacity to see me, you beast!"
Meng Yunzheng's eyes also turned icy. "Why shouldn't I have the audacity? I'm only avenging my mother. I let you roam freely for over a decade. Isn't that filial enough?"
