Chang Shi shook her head, indicating that there were no issues with Shu Yu's appearance. They then proceeded to find Assistant Minister Jing.
When Minister Jing saw her, he was momentarily taken aback. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to ask something but didn't know how to phrase it.
Chang Shi couldn't help but chuckle at his puzzled expression.
As they boarded the carriage, Minister Jing continued to steal glances at Shu Yu from time to time. Shu Yu thought, "Just ask whatever you want to ask. There's no need for you, a high-ranking official, to be so reserved."
However, Assistant Minister Jing remained reserved and didn't ask anything.
When they arrived at the Ministry of Justice, he had a serious expression on his face.
Shu Yu followed behind him with a lowered gaze as they entered the prison cell.
She had stayed in a prison cell before when she was at the Eastern Peace Mansion, but compared to the Ministry of Justice, the difference was significant.
At the very least, the guards at the Ministry of Justice were much stricter. Two jailers with expressionless faces stood at every corner, saluting respectfully when they saw Assistant Minister Jing.
Assistant Minister Jing walked to a corner on the left side and told the jailer behind him, "Bring out Gong Xiao. I want to interrogate him alone."
"Yes, sir."
As Shu Yu's attendant, she had to refrain from attracting attention, so she restrained herself from looking around.
It was only when Meng Yunzheng was brought out of the prison cell that she finally laid her eyes on him.
Thankfully, he seemed fine, without any injuries or illnesses. His spirit was still intact, but his clothes were a bit dirty, and a few strands of hair had fallen down. He appeared slightly thinner.
Meng Yunzheng had been looking at Assistant Minister Jing, wondering why he suddenly wanted to interrogate him. It was only when he felt a strange gaze beside him that he turned his head and was shocked by what he saw.
In the next moment, his expression changed drastically, and his eyes revealed astonishment and disbelief.
While others couldn't recognize Shu Yu, he immediately recognized her.
This girl, who was supposed to be in Jiangyuan County thousands of miles away, appeared so vividly right in front of him.
How did she come here? When did she arrive? What has she been through? Why did she come to the prison cell with Assistant Minister Jing?
Meng Yunzheng had many questions in his heart, but Minister Jing cleared his throat and said, "Take him away."
He was pushed forward.
They arrived at a small dark room, and Assistant Minister Jing sat behind a desk. Shu Yu obediently stood behind him.
When the two jailers brought Meng Yunzheng in, Minister Jing said to them, "You can leave. I want to ask him a few questions privately."
"Yes, sir."
The jailers left, and once the door was closed, Shu Yu hurriedly ran to Meng Yunzheng's side and looked at him, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, but what about you? How did you come to the capital?"
"I had a feeling of unease at home, so I decided to come here. I arrived in the capital the day before yesterday, and yesterday I happened to meet Madam Jing. That's how I learned that you were locked up in the prison cell. I pleaded with Assistant Minister Jing to bring me here."
Meng Yunzheng raised his head and nodded towards Minister Jing behind the desk, expressing his gratitude.
"No need to thank me. If you have something to say, say it quickly. I'll be reviewing the case files later." Assistant Minister Jing stood up, locked the room door from the inside, and then took out a dossier from his pocket, focusing on reading it.
Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged a glance and sat down in a corner, speaking softly.
Minister Jing claimed that Meng Yunzheng deliberately made people think he was the murderer. So who was the real culprit? And why did he do it?
