Shu Yu was taken aback. The voice sounded familiar.
She turned her head slightly and saw a carriage stopping not far away. A person poked her head out of the carriage and looked at Shu Yu in surprise.
"Miss Lu, it's really you. When did you come to the capital?" the person asked.
Shu Yu was also surprised to see that it was Madame Chang, the wife of master Jing, the Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Justice, and the cousin of Deng Shi.
Indeed, master Jing was well-informed. As a trusted confidant of the Fifth Prince, he was acquainted with Meng Yunzheng and had cooperated with him before.
Shu Yu walked up to Madame Chang, who had also alighted from the carriage. Madame Chang looked Shu Yu up and down, smiling, "It's unexpected to meet you again after parting in Jiangyuan County. Congratulations on becoming the village lord."
Shu Yu smiled, "It's a blessing in disguise." If it weren't for her exile, she wouldn't have been able to bring the heating packs and become the village lord.
Madame Chang knew that Shu Yu was being modest and laughed, then glanced at the Yao Residence not far away.
"What brings you here?" she asked.
Shu Yu shook her head, "Nothing much. I got to know the Yao family during my exile, so when I came to the capital, I thought of visiting them. But it seems the timing isn't right."
Madame Chang didn't ask why the timing wasn't right. Seeing that Shu Yu didn't intend to enter the Yao Residence, she extended an invitation, "Since you rarely visit the capital, you must come to my house as well. Last time, we had such a pleasant conversation, and I still have some unfinished thoughts."
Her words were well put, and Shu Yu wanted to visit the Chang Residence too. They agreed instantly and were about to set off.
Shu Yu turned to Ying Xi, "Let's go."
As she spoke, Madame Chang held her arm, and they both boarded her carriage.
Ying Xi quickly drove their carriage and followed behind. After a short while, they disappeared from the sight of the Yao siblings.
The siblings stood there dumbfounded, unable to believe that Shu Yu had left without saying anything.
Young master Yao furrowed his brows and turned to the gatekeeper, "Uncle Feng, whose carriage was that? Who was the lady inside?"
Uncle Feng resisted the urge to roll his eyes and replied, "That was Assistant Minister Jing's carriage, and the lady inside was Madame Jing."
"Assistant Minister Jing?!" Yao siblings exclaimed. "How does she know Assistant Minister Jing's wife?"
If she had such a powerful backing, why would she bother coming to them to seduce brother Yao?
The siblings exchanged glances.
Meanwhile, Uncle Feng cursed them in his heart. The Yao siblings were the young master and young lady of their own uncle's family. When they arrived in the capital yesterday, they acted high and mighty, claiming they were visiting relatives. But after just one night, the entire mansion knew that their real purpose was to seek an official position for their cousin.
What an absurd idea. Even their own young master had to participate in the imperial examinations and work his way into the court if he wanted an official position.
Back when their master was exiled, the Yao family struggled. Everyone kept their distance, but now that their master had regained his position and even become a minister of the Ministry of Works, the Yao family immediately came to their door. Who was truly scheming and shameless?
Uncle Feng couldn't be bothered with the Yao siblings and quickly reported the matter to Madam Yao.
