Upon Ying Xi's return, Shu Yu made a quick decision and decided to visit Tianning County for a day. They quickly arranged with the ship's owner to board the ship the following noon, paid the deposit, and then headed straight to Tianning County with Yingxi.
Tianning County was not far from Huajiang Prefecture, and being a major port for cargo transportation, it was also bustling with activity.
As Shu Yu sat in the carriage entering the city, she noticed the stark contrast between the atmosphere here and that of Jiangyuan County.
"Do you know where the former Quansheng Escort Agency was located?" Shu Yu asked Ying Xi.
Ying Xi shook her head, saying, "I left Tianning County when I was only three years old, and I can't remember many things."
Even though she had met Meng Yunzheng when she was young, she had no knowledge of him in these recent years. When she returned to Tianning County after her father's death, she only went to his grave outside the city with her brother, and she had little time to revisit her former home in the city.
If Yingdong were here, he might still recognize it, but Ying Xi had no recollection at all.
"However, my brother mentioned that the former Quansheng Escort Agency was on South Fifth Street." As for whether it was at the beginning or end of the street, she was not entirely sure.
South Fifth Street? Shu Yu nodded to indicate her understanding. They inquired about the location of South Fifth Street and found that it was not far from the city gate. So they decided to find an inn nearby and freshen up.
Shu Yu then told Yingxi, "While we still have time, you should go visit your father outside the city. You can take the carriage, and I will go to South Fifth Street."
"Miss, let me accompany you. I..." Ying Xi hesitated.
"No need." Shu Yu waved her hand. "Tomorrow morning, we have to set off early, and you won't have time to visit your father then. So you should go now."
Ying Xi gritted her teeth but eventually nodded.
Shu Yu instructed her, "Remember to return before the city gates close. Don't delay too much."
It was already past noon, and she had to buy things, leave the city, and climb a mountain. Time was a bit tight.
Yingxi nodded and didn't delay any further. She drove the carriage away from the inn.
Once she was gone, Shu Yu changed into a new outfit and began strolling towards South Fifth Street.
South Fifth Street was indeed not far from their location, and it only took them about fifteen minutes to walk there.
However, this street was quite long, and Shu Yu didn't know exactly where the former Quansheng Escort Agency was. She had to search carefully.
Shu Yu observed the surroundings. Was this the place where Meng Yunzheng had lived as a child?
She wondered if there had been significant changes in the past ten years. If he returned now, would he still recognize it?
The street was bustling, with many shops and not just residential houses.
While pondering, she noticed a somewhat dilapidated courtyard not far away.
Without asking, Shu Yu knew that it must be the former Quansheng Escort Agency.
The courtyard was quite large, but half of it had been burnt down, and the other half had fallen into disrepair over the years. The courtyard walls were scorched and appeared unstable.
Shu Yu stood at the entrance and looked at the house in front of her. There was little doubt that this was the former Quansheng Escort Agency that was set on fire back then.
After observing for a moment, her gaze fell on a beggar dressed in rags in a corner.
The beggar looked older, holding a dirty bowl with not a single copper coin inside.
