If it wasn't for this rain, Shu Yu's plan for today was to not enter the city and head straight to the next county to spend the night.
Ying Xi wiped his face again and drove the carriage towards Shangyang Prefecture.
There were hardly any people on the road, and they didn't need to queue at the city gate.
The carriage quickly entered the city, and with no time to consider the quality of the inn, they stopped at a relatively clean-looking inn not far from the city gate.
The inn's attendant hurriedly welcomed them, "Are you here to eat or stay?"
Shu Yu got off the carriage and said, "We need a room."
"Alright." The attendant immediately turned and shouted inside before taking the reins from Ying Xi's hand and leading the horse to the stable in the backyard.
Shu Yu and Ying Xi carried their belongings into the inn, shaking off the water droplets from their clothes.
The innkeeper behind the counter looked at them in surprise. He didn't expect two young girls like them to stay at the inn.
He looked around unsurely, but there was no one else.
These two girls were quite brave to venture out alone. Could they have run away from home?
The innkeeper pondered this as he continued with his work, preparing the room and then having the attendant lead them upstairs.
Shu Yu paid with silver and directly went to the room on the second floor, which was at the corner.
The room wasn't very large, but when away from home, one couldn't expect too much.
After entering the room, Ying Xi placed her luggage down and said, "Miss, you rest for a while. I'll go to the kitchen and fetch some hot water."
"Okay."
Shu Yu felt uncomfortable. Not only was she sticky from being drenched in rainwater, but she was also sweaty from the heat.
When Ying Xi returned with the hot water, they both wiped themselves dry and changed into dry clothes, feeling much better.
The rain outside showed no signs of stopping, so Shu Yu opened the window and looked at the empty street.
The entire street was deserted, with occasional people running by in the rain, splashing water everywhere.
Unable to continue on the road, Shu Yu could only stay in the inn, studying the map.
Originally, she had planned to travel by land. In fact, if they rushed and took their time, traveling by land would be faster and more convenient than the water route.
However, the weather was obviously not on her side. Frequent rain showers made traveling on land impossible. If the rain kept falling like this for several days and nights, it would be impossible for her to set off.
Since she had decided to take the water route, she needed to change her course.
Shu Yu was pointing and explaining on the map, occasionally exchanging a few words with Ying Xi. However, Ying Xi suddenly fell silent.
Shu Yu raised her eyebrows in surprise. She rarely saw Ying Xi with such an expression.
She put down the charcoal pen and fixed her gaze on Ying Xi for a while.
Ying Xi suddenly snapped out of her thoughts, "Miss, what's wrong?"
"I should be asking you what's wrong. You seem so absorbed in your thoughts. What's bothering you so much?" Shuyu smiled. "Since we have nothing else to do, tell me, what's on your mind that's making you so restless?"
Ying Xi quickly shook her head, "Nothing, it's nothing."
"If you don't tell me, I won't be happy."
Ying Xi hesitated, "Really, it's nothing. I just didn't expect that we would pass by Huajiang Prefecture on this trip."
