Ying Dong's expression was slightly excited. "Ah lun, it's really you. I... I didn't expect to see you here."
Even less did he expect that Meng Yunzheng was the Young Master Meng that Ying Xi had mentioned.
Meng Yunzheng smiled and said, "Yes, it's me. It's been a long time, about ten years, right?"
Indeed, ten years had passed, and everything had changed.
Now that Ying Dong had become a servant of the Lu family, he must have experienced many hardships and suffered a lot over the past ten years.
Shu Yu was taken aback. She looked at Ying Dong, then at Meng Yunzheng, "You two... know each other?"
Meng Yunzheng nodded, "Yes, we were childhood friends."
Childhood friends?
Shu Yu knew that Ying Dong and Ying Xi were skilled in martial arts because they had grown up in a escort agency. Later, something happened to the agency, and their parents died in prison, leaving the siblings to be sold.
Could it be that the escort agency in trouble back then was the Meng family's agency?
If so, were Ying Dong's parents also victims of Gong Qiu? That would be troublesome.
However, looking at Ying Dong's expression, it didn't seem like that. Shu Yu was about to inquire about the situation when Ying Xi hurriedly ran over, "Young Miss, there are many guests in the front courtyard. The Old Madam wants you to go and meet a few elders."
As he spoke, she glared at Ying Dong.
Ying Dong was a bit annoyed. He had forgotten his original purpose.
"I'm sorry, Second Miss, I delayed you." He didn't want his presence to make those elders misunderstand Shu Yu and think that she was acting arrogantly because of his presence.
Meng Yunzheng smiled, "Ah Yu, you go first. I'll talk to Lin Dong for a moment, then I'll join you."
Shu Yu was quite curious, but as today's main character, she couldn't stay in the rear courtyard all the time and not see anyone. So she nodded and went with Ying Xi to the front courtyard.
Ying Dong followed behind and exchanged a glance with Meng Yunzheng. Both of them smiled at the same time.
The ten years of separation and unfamiliarity seemed to dissipate with that smile.
"Why did you change your name? I heard the Lu family mention Ying Dong and Ying Xi before, but I didn't connect them to you two," Meng Yunzheng said as they walked towards the front courtyard.
Ying Dong replied, "After your family had an accident, and you left with your biological father, the escort agency was left without a leader, and everyone scattered. My father took us to another escort agency in the capital to start over. However, not even two years later, we encountered bandits while on a mission, and though we managed to keep our cargo safe, my father was seriously injured."
Meng Yunzheng paused in his steps, "Uncle Lin..."
Talking about his biological father made Ying Dong emotional. "He came back, covered in injuries, and saw us for the last time. After entrusting us to the head of the escort agency at the time, he passed away. Later, my mother remarried, and we changed our surname."
"Unfortunately, it didn't last long. Four years ago, the escort agency was targeted and caught smuggling weapons privately, and we were all arrested."
Fortunately, the amount of weapons smuggled was not significant, but it was enough to result in a prison sentence.
His parents passed away, and he and his sister were sold as slaves.
Meng Yunzheng hadn't expected that there were such twists and turns in the story. Both Uncle Lin and Aunt Lin had passed away.
"What about you? How has it been in the capital? How did your biological father treat you?" Taking a deep breath, Ying Dong didn't want to dwell on the past hardships.
He was curious why Meng Yunzheng appeared here. Since he had already been acknowledged by his biological father, why was he still surnamed Meng here?
Wasn't it because Uncle Meng had forced Aunt Meng to marry him, causing Meng Yunzheng to be unable to reunite with his biological father?
