Shu Yu followed the people to the front courtyard, where the facilities for the ceremony had been set up on the east side of the main house - the East Room.
She was now sitting in the East Room, waiting patiently. Soon, the music started outside, and the guests began arriving one by one.
Most of the participants were women, and there weren't many spectators, totaling just over ten people.
In addition to the Lu family, there were also two elderly women from Shishi Village who had arrived the previous night.
And... Zhao Xi and Meng Yunzheng, along with Ding Yuehua, who had come earlier in the morning.
Meng Yunzheng and Zhao Xi stood in a corner, almost invisible to others if they didn't pay attention.
Ding Yuehua attended the ceremony to assist Shu Yu with the rituals as her witness.
The ceremony proceeded through several steps: taking position, bowing once, adding a layer, bowing twice, bowing thrice, and finally, the audience. After the completion of the ceremony, Shu Yu was exhausted and sweating profusely, mainly because of the scorching weather.
After the ceremony, the Old Lady quickly came over with a handkerchief and whispered, "Alright, go back to the rear courtyard and freshen up a bit. Look at all that sweat on your head. We'll go outside to welcome the guests, and you can rejoin us later after cooling down."
"Alright."
Shu Yu returned to Yu Garden alone. Although she couldn't take a bath, she wiped herself with cold water, feeling much better.
The outfit she wore was a bit heavy before, but now that she took off some layers, she felt more relaxed as she walked out of the bathroom.
However, to her surprise, as soon as she stepped outside, she saw Meng Yunzheng waiting for her outside the garden.
"Why did you come here?"
Meng Yunzheng smiled and said, "I came to talk to you." He paused and whispered, "I'll be leaving for the capital this evening."
Shu Yu's smile froze on her face, "So soon?"
"Yes," he replied. That's why he didn't have much time to talk with her today and had to find an opportunity to see her.
Shu Yu was well aware of what he would face in the capital, so she couldn't help but worry, "Is everything prepared in the capital?"
"Don't worry, I'll come back safe and sound to see you. I won't let anything happen to myself; I guarantee nothing will go wrong."
Although he said so, she couldn't help but worry that he might encounter ruthless individuals like Gong Qiu in the capital, and she feared that he might risk his life recklessly.
Thinking about this, she couldn't help but give him a few more reminders.
Meng Yunzheng listened quietly. At this moment, he just wanted to hear her voice a bit more.
As they talked, they walked towards the front courtyard.
Meng Yunzheng held a fan in his hand and fanned her while occasionally nodding.
As they were about to reach the Magnolia Gate, they saw a figure running towards them.
As the figure approached, they could see it was Ying Dong. Ying Dong stood behind the Magnolia Gate and said, "Second Miss, over there..."
As he spoke, his gaze naturally fell on Meng Yunzheng, and he couldn't help but think that this person was probably the rumored Young Master Meng, right?
He nodded to the other person and was about to continue speaking.
But as if suddenly realizing something, he turned his head abruptly and looked at Meng Yunzheng again, "You, you are Meng Yunzheng?"
He had heard from his younger sister that Zhao Xi's friend, Young Master Meng, was the future Second Master of the family, but Ying Dong had never been told his name, only hearing her call him Young Master Meng.
Now, meeting him for the first time, Ying Dong became flustered.
Meng Yunzheng also looked at the person in front of him, and after a moment, a rare expression of joy appeared on his face, "Lin Dong?!"
