Gradually, the feeling of being mistreated in the capital disappeared County Princess Zhang, and she finally experienced the conveniences of being a county princess.
After five or six years, she started to lose sight of her own identity.
She saw herself as the County Princess of Dong'an Prefecture, while Shu Yu was merely a village lord from Jiangyuan County, far below her. It was an honor for her younger brother to be interested in Shu Yu, so how could she dare to refuse him? This made her resentful towards Shu Yu.
Shu Yu understood now. No wonder back when the Shu family was still prosperous, none of the Shu family's daughters befriended this county princess. They must have looked down on her.
The Zhang family, except for this Zhang County Princess, had no officials or background; even she was just an empty title.
The Shu family was always pragmatic, and they wouldn't waste time on her.
Seeing Shu Yu's silence, Xiang Weinan said, "You don't have to worry about that County Princess Zhang. If she tries to trouble you, just stand your ground. Besides, she probably won't dare to trouble you in a couple of days."
Confused, Shu Yu asked, "What do you mean?"
Xiang Weinan replied with a mysterious look, "You'll find out on the day of your coming-of-age ceremony."
Shu Yu wanted to ask further, but Xiang Weinan impatiently waved her hand, "Enough already, go back now. I have other things to attend to. I'll come congratulate you at your family banquet in a few days."
And so, Shu Yu was driven away by Xiang Weinan, leaving her amused and irritated.
Speaking half-hidden and half-revealed was annoying. Could one have some basic moral character?
Standing outside the county office, Shu Yu gritted her teeth in frustration.
Beside her, Ying Xi held a dagger in her hand and asked, "Miss, should we break in?"
With an obedient expression, she seemed ready to follow any command.
Shu Yu replied, "..."
"Forget it. With his despicable character, he'll be punished sooner or later."
After saying that, she glanced at the county office once more, snorted coldly, and turned away.
Since Xiang Weinan had assured her that she didn't need to worry about that County Princess Zhang, she decided to focus on her coming-of-age ceremony.
With her family attaching such importance to it, she couldn't help but become nervous and eager.
The day after tomorrow, early in the morning, finally arrived, marking her birthday.
Shu Yu was still a bit sleepy, but her grandmother and Ruan Shi had already come to knock on her door.
"Ah Yu, hurry up and get up. Let your mother and sister dress you up; the guests will be here soon."
Yawning, Shu Yu looked at the sky. It was just about sunrise; the day had barely begun.
The knocking on the door continued, "Ah Yu, are you up?"
"Yes, yes." Shu Yu quickly put on a robe and went to open the door.
Ruan Shi held a box in her hand, containing Shu Yu's new clothes.
She placed the clothes on the table and then turned to the people outside, saying, "Quickly bring the water to the bathroom."
Several servants from the Lu family entered with pots of hot water; the bathroom was adjacent to Shu Yu's room, making it convenient to access.
The ceramic toilet that the Fan family helped install was also in there.
The bathroom was designed with a modern touch, with a floor paved with green stones, making it clean and convenient.
The maids poured the hot water into the tub, and Ruan Shi urged Shu Yu to bathe and change her clothes.
Originally, Shu Yu was quite calm, but they made her nervous as well.
After taking a bath, putting on the ceremonial attire, and having a light meal, there wasn't much time left.
