Shu Yu and Kong Zhiyou couldn't be considered friends, but they were acquainted with each other. Kong Zhiyou was her client, so it was only natural to welcome her when she came to congratulate her.
"I actually forgot to send her an invitation, but she is welcome to come."
Ding Yuehua understood the situation, and they continued their conversation while having their meal.
After chatting for a while, Ding Yuehua's previous gloomy expression disappeared. She had come back from Donggu County and was feeling a bit tired. After leaving the restaurant, the two went their separate ways, with Ding Yuehua returning to the Fan family.
Shu Yu had initially planned to go to the Yiren Pavilion, but after this delay, she lost interest in going there. Although she assured Ding Yuehua not to worry, she couldn't help but keep the matter with Miss Zhang on her mind.
Since she couldn't go to the capital for now, it wouldn't hurt to gather some information about Miss Zhang.
With this thought in mind, Shu Yu changed direction and headed towards another place.
Ying Xi quickly followed. "Miss, where are we going?"
"To inquire about something."
Ying Xi didn't understand until they stood in front of the county yamen. It finally clicked in her mind.
Is Miss going to inquire about something from the county magistrate?
Shu Yu was a familiar face at the county yamen. The guards at the entrance led her inside and offered her tea in the main hall before rushing to inform Xiang Weinan.
Xiang Weinan walked over with a big smile. "Village lord must be busy these days. Why do you still have time to come and find me?"
He sat opposite Shu Yu and poured himself a cup of tea. "Tell me, what brings you here?"
"I'm here to inquire about someone."
"Who?"
"Miss Zhang from Dong'an Prefecture."
Xiang Weinan put down his teacup and furrowed his brows, taking some time to remember who Miss Zhang was.
"Why are you asking about her?"
Shu Yu shrugged and recounted the story Ding Yuehua had told her.
Xiang Weinan couldn't help but suspect that he misheard. "Her? Her younger brother wanted to propose to your family? The Zhang family really thinks highly of themselves."
Hmm, was he praising her with those words?
Shu Yu felt delighted, and a smile formed on her lips.
However, in the next moment, Xiang Weinan suddenly gloated, "Does Ah Yun know about this? I wonder if I should tell him. If someone has designs on him, would he directly storm into the Zhang family?"
"You just want chaos, don't you? Don't you know how busy he is right now?" Although Meng Yunzhen didn't mention it, Shu Yu knew he was busy. Several letters had arrived from the capital, indicating that the situation there had become increasingly tense.
She had thought he would return to the capital, but when she asked him twice, he said to wait a little longer.
She realized that he intended to stay until after her most important birthday in life. If he didn't leave, it meant he had more things to do and prepare.
Shu Yu was now eagerly looking forward to her birthday.
Xiang Weinan knew this better than Shu Yu. He was also busy and didn't want to burden himself further, so he joked a bit in front of her without adding to his own load.
He cleared his throat. "Alright, I won't say anything."
Look at how concerned you are. You're not even married yet.
Shu Yu was satisfied. "Tell me about Miss Zhang instead. After hearing what you said, it seems like she's not such an exceptional person?"
Xiang Weinan caught the implicit meaning behind her words. It seemed like he was saying that a county princess couldn't compare to a village lord like her.
