Shu Yu suspected that this Miss Zhang might hold a grudge against the Shu family, but now that the Shu family members were all exiled, Miss Zhang couldn't take revenge and thus blamed everything on her.
Shu Yu thought this Miss Zhang was insane.
However, in the next moment, Ding Yuehua asked, "Ah Yu, did you reject the proposal from Miss Zhang's family?"
Shu Yu was bewildered. "...Proposal? What proposal?"
Ding Yuehua frowned. "When the Wu family heard that Miss Zhang wanted those two horses, they immediately tried to dissuade her. They investigated the reason behind Miss Zhang's desire for the horses and unexpectedly found out that Miss Zhang's younger brother had approached a matchmaker for a proposal to your family. But you rejected it and seemed to have a disdainful attitude towards their family."
Shu Yu was dumbfounded. Miss Zhang's younger brother had approached a matchmaker for a proposal to her?
Seeing her reaction, Ding Yuehua couldn't help but be astonished. "You don't know?"
Shu Yu pondered for a moment. "My grandmother did mention that since I became the village lord, many families have expressed interest in forming a connection with our family, including proposals for me. But my elder sister has already settled down, and I haven't come of age yet. My grandmother rejected them all without waiting for the matchmaker to reveal the identity of the suitors."
"So, your grandmother had no idea who these families were, including Miss Zhang's family?"
Shu Yu shook her head. "No idea."
She narrowed her eyes slightly. "So, there's no question of me looking down on her family."
Ding Yuehua sneered at the thought of those matchmakers' actions. "Most likely, when those matchmakers couldn't make the match, fearing they wouldn't be able to explain the situation when they returned, they directly blamed everything on your family."
She sighed. "The Wu family's elder brother speculated that the reason why Miss Zhang wanted to intercept those two horses was because of this. He decided not to sell to either side to prevent deepening the conflict between you. You're the village lord, and she's a county magistrate. If she wants to deal with you, you will be the one at a disadvantage."
Shu Yu felt frustrated. "This is clearly an undeserved calamity."
Ding Yuehua expressed her concern. "Ah Yu, Miss Zhang won't easily let it go after seizing your horses. This is just the first time, who knows what else she might do."
Shu Yu thought that Miss Zhang was truly insane. Who knows whether her brother is tall or short, or what he even looks like. If he can't marry into your family, then you want to take it out on me? Is she insane?
Facing Ding Yuehua's worried expression, Shu Yu smiled. "It's alright. There's always a solution to any problem that arises."
"But..."
"Don't worry. After my birthday, I'll go to the capital and see this Miss Zhang. If there's any misunderstanding, I'll clarify it. If she insists on targeting me and making things difficult, I won't be so easily bullied. Rest assured."
Ding Yuehua couldn't think of any other solutions for now and could only nod. "If you need any help, you must let me know."
"I know."
Ding Yuehua then talked about Shu Yu's birthday. "We can't give you the two white horses, but we can give you two black horses. Don't worry, the two horses I brought are very strong."
"That's enough. I don't have high demands for horses."
Although Shu Yu said that, Ding Yuehua still felt a bit regretful.
"By the way, Zhiyou heard about your coming-of-age ceremony and asked me to bring her along to celebrate with you."
