Liang Shi approached Shu Yu cautiously and asked in a low voice, "Ah Yu, what do you think?"
Shu Yu was about to respond when she noticed the middleman perking up his ears on the side. She furrowed her brows slightly and hesitated, saying, "Hmm... the house is alright, but the price is too expensive. Third Aunt, it's a whopping 280 taels. With such a high asking price, it would be better to buy the courtyard I previously introduced to you."
Liang Shi was stunned. What courtyard? When did Ah Yu introduce a courtyard to her?
Shu Yu secretly signaled to her, and Liang Shi suddenly understood. Ah Yu was going to negotiate the price.
She nodded immediately and said, "You're right. With 280 taels, there are plenty of other houses to choose from."
Er Niu, who was unaware of their silent dispute, thought that Shu Yu had actually introduced a courtyard and hurriedly asked, "sister Ah Yu, where is the courtyard you introduced to third Aunt? It doesn't require 280 taels, right?"
Shu Yu nodded and said with a serious expression, "Yes, it's true. It only costs 255 taels. If third Aunt decides to buy it, we can still negotiate the price. The only downside is that it might be a bit far, which would inconvenience third Uncle's daily commute and make it difficult for Da Bao to go to school."
Lan Hua felt a bit regretful and said, "That would be inconvenient indeed, especially since third uncle doesn't have a mule cart."
As soon as she finished speaking, Shu Yu clapped her hands together and said, "Exactly! We can buy a mule cart."
Shu Yu suggested to Liang Shi, "third Aunt, you can buy the mule cart from outside. It only costs a dozen or so taels of silver. If you spend 255 taels on the house and a dozen or so taels on the mule cart, it won't even reach 280 taels. In this way, not only will you have a house, but also a cart. It will be convenient for third Uncle's travel to work, and you won't need to rent a cart for traveling in the future."
Liang Shi shamelessly felt tempted, especially when Shu Yu's words sounded so convincing. She almost wanted to pull Shu Yu back immediately.
Fortunately, the voice of the middleman next to them interrupted her thoughts, allowing her to calm down.
"Sister Lu, don't worry. We can sit down and negotiate the price slowly. If you think it's too expensive, leave it to me. I can talk to the owner and see what can be done," the middleman said.
Liang Shi was hesitant and couldn't help but look at Shu Yu. "Ah Yu, how about we let him negotiate the price?"
"Third Aunt, it might be difficult to negotiate the price," Shu Yu replied.
The middleman quickly assured them, "Who said that? Leave it to me. Sister Lu, you continue looking here, and I'll go talk to the owner."
Liang Shi wanted to follow along. If they were going to negotiate the price, wouldn't it be better for her to talk to the owner herself?
But she had only taken a few steps when Shu Yu pulled her back. They waited until the middleman left before Liang Shi whispered, "third Aunt, let's wait for a bit."
"But I haven't told him the price I have in mind yet."
"There's more space here." Shu Yu glanced around the house and said, "Considering the location and the size of the house, 280 taels is not too expensive. If we can negotiate it down by twenty or thirty taels, that would already be the limit."
Whether it was twenty or thirty taels would depend on the middleman's abilities.
Liang Shi thought it over in her mind. Even if it was only twenty or thirty taels less, it was still a reduction.
The middleman didn't take long to return. In fact, he didn't need to negotiate at all. The owner had already given the bottom price, and he would receive a certain percentage of the selling price as his fee.
His departure was just for show.
Unexpectedly, when he returned, he revealed the bottom price.
