Liang Shi chuckled and shook her head. "He doesn't know."
The old lady immediately became unhappy. Alright, borrowing such a large sum of money without discussing it with your husband. If you end up quarreling later, would you blame Shu Yu for having too much money?
She waved her hand, wanting to drive Liang Shi away.
Liang Shi understood the old lady well. She knew what she was about to say just by looking at her expression. She quickly explained before the old lady could speak.
"Mother, it's not my fault. I originally wanted to discuss it with my husband, but the situation was urgent."
"How urgent could it be? Did someone try to snatch the house from you?"
Who would have expected Liang Shi to vigorously nod her head. She explained to Shu Yu, "Originally, my husband and I had our eyes on a small courtyard in our lane. Although the house wasn't big, it had four or five rooms, which would be enough for our family of four. We were considering waiting a bit longer to see if we could negotiate a lower price. But who knew..."
Who knew that the other party not only didn't lower the price but sold the house this morning.
Liang Shi regretted it now. She went to the original owner to try to negotiate and offered an additional two taels of silver to buy the house back.
The original owner was amused by this. Two taels of silver? How could she even say that?
But Liang Shi's stubbornness was truly annoying. Coincidentally, the middleman who facilitated the transaction was also present. Since Liang Shi wanted to buy a house, she was his client, so he said that he still had a better house, although it was a bit more expensive. He asked Liang Shi if she was interested.
Liang Shi hesitated when she heard that the price was even higher.
The middleman suggested taking her to see it first. Liang Shi couldn't bear to leave after seeing it.
But it was truly expensive. She said she needed to consider it. The middleman was shrewd and immediately said that the house was in high demand and would be sold to someone else if she didn't buy it soon.
Liang Shi did see several families come to see the house. She was worried that someone would snatch it away, just like the previous small courtyard.
So she asked the middleman to wait for her while she discussed it with her husband.
Buying a house was a big deal, and it shouldn't be decided by her alone. The middleman understood this and urged her to make a decision as soon as possible.
That's why Liang Shi sadly said, "At that time, I went to find my husband in Peach Blossom forest, but who knew that he accompanied the Ji family out of the city for business and won't be back until tonight."
Even when he returned, they still lacked some money.
After thinking it over, Liang Shi decided to come to Shu Yu.
She wanted to borrow money and seek her opinion. As long as Ah Yu agreed, Lu Sanzhu would definitely not object.
For this, she even spent two wen to take a donkey cart to Ning Shui Street.
The old lady wrinkled her brows slightly after hearing the story. "Is that house really that good?"
"Mother, if we miss this opportunity, we won't have another chance. I heard from the middleman that the house owner needs money urgently. Otherwise, the price would be even higher. Right now, it's only two hundred and eighty taels, which is already the lowest price."
Lan Hua, who was beside them, gasped. Two hundred and eighty taels was considered low?
Lan Hua had never seen so much silver in her life. It was truly shocking.
Liang Shi anxiously looked at Shu Yu. She had heard from her husband that Shu Yu was very supportive of buying a house because she believed that the house prices in Jiangyuan County would definitely increase soon.
Sure enough, after a moment of silence, Shu Yu nodded. "Alright, I'll accompany Third Aunt to take a look."
