Zhou Qiao pointed outside and said, "Your eldest brother is busy in the field. Ever since he planted sunflowers on that twenty-acre plot, he can't help but wish to be there all the time. It would be great if they could grow and mature overnight."
Shu Yuyue smiled, "Then I'll go take a look."
In her heart, she was just like her eldest brother. She could only earn money once the sunflowers grew, otherwise she would only have expenses and that would make her feel uneasy.
Zhou Qiao saw her getting up and looked at the blazing sun outside, "It's hot outside. You should rest at home, I'll go call him back. If you have any questions, ask your eldest brother."
"No need, I'll go see how they're growing." She didn't know if they had sprouted yet.
Shu Yuyue enthusiastically headed out, and Zhou Qiao quickly followed, guiding her the way.
An Ning, on the other hand, didn't follow them. It was her first time at the farm, and she was very curious about it. After drinking some water and feeling more comfortable, she started wandering around the front and back of the farmhouse.
Shu Yuyue hadn't gone far from the farmhouse when she saw a green patch of tiny shoots in the distance, and her eyes lit up. They had sprouted already.
She immediately quickened her pace and walked up to them, hearing her eldest brother talking to a group of people, "Don't worry, planting crops on this piece of land may not be successful, but sunflowers are perfect. You can see for yourselves, they've sprouted quite well."
Someone was curious, "Da Niu, can these sunflowers really grow over two meters tall? What can they be used for after they're planted?"
"You'll find out once they're fully grown, won't you?" Eldest Brother smiled but didn't give a clear answer.
Right now, they were still seedlings that needed protection. If he revealed everything, what would happen if someone came and stole them?
It was at this moment that Shu Yuyue approached and called out, "Big Brother."
Da Niu and the workers turned their heads abruptly and stood up in unison.
"Ah Yu, you're here."
The others also greeted, "Greetings, Master."
Shu Yu waved her hand, "You all can continue with your work. I just want to talk to my brother."
The workers gradually moved away, and then Shu Yu squatted down and looked at the seedlings on the ground.
"They seem to be growing well. Are there any major issues?"
Da Niu shook his head, "No, these workers are quite diligent. It's just that they've never planted or seen sunflowers before, so they're unsure and afraid of doing a poor job. Fortunately, sunflowers sprout quickly, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief once they emerged."
Pausing for a moment, he frowned and said, "But..."
"What's wrong?"
"Ah Yu, we only planted sunflowers on twenty acres of land. There are still eighty acres lying empty here, which is a huge waste. Shouldn't we consider planting something else on them? That way, the farmers will have work to do, and you won't have to worry about letting them go."
Shu Yu nodded, "I came here today to discuss this with you. Let's plant golden rape on the remaining eighty acres of land."
Da Niu was stunned, "Plant golden rape on all eighty acres?"
Shu Yu stood up, clapped her hands, and looked at the barren land in front of her. She whispered, "We all know the reason why this land has low grain yield. There are limitations to what we can grow here, and after much thought, golden rape seems to be the most suitable."
Most of the land in front of them was saline-alkali soil, but fortunately, the salt content wasn't very high. However, it had a significant impact on grain yields.
Sunflowers not only had low soil requirements but also could grow normally in saline-alkali soil.
Moreover, they had the ability to absorb salt and improve the land, making them one of the crops used to reclaim saline-alkali soil.
