The atmosphere in the courtyard was tense and on edge.
At first glance, Shu Yu saw a stool placed in the middle of the courtyard. Xiaoyun was struggling frantically, but she couldn't match the strength of the two maidservants holding her down on the stool. There were two people standing on either side with large boards in their hands.
If Ding Yuehua hadn't arrived in time, those boards might have been used to strike her.
In addition, there were two people in the courtyard who seemed to be the masters of the house.
The younger one should be the eldest young madam of the Fan family, Mei Shi. There was also an older woman by her side, judging by her stern gaze and unpleasant expression, she was probably Yu Shi, the wife of the Fan family Madam Fan.
The servant who had brought the news to Shu Yu had said that Xiaoyun had a conflict with Mei Shi.
But now, it seemed that Madam Fan had also gotten involved.
Ding Yuehua had to face both of them, one of whom was even an elder, and that was quite disadvantageous.
Sure enough, before Ding Yuehua could speak, Madam Fan already reproached her displeasingly, "What are you doing? Just casually barging into your elder brother and sister-in-law's courtyard, what kind of words are those?"
With Madam Yu present, Ding Yuehua forcefully suppressed the urge to rush forward and argue with Mei Shi.
She took a deep breath and said to Madam Fan, "Mother, it was wrong of me to rush in like this, but it was elder sister-in-law who detained my people. Without even asking me, she was about to harm Xiaoyun. I couldn't help it. Xiaoyun has been with me since she was young. No matter what she does wrong, shouldn't elder sister-in-law come and talk to me first before taking action against her?"
Mei Shi, with Madam Fan by her side, wasn't afraid at all. She sneered, "Ask you? You would only protect her. What's the use of asking you? Xiaoyun has been with you since she was young, but now that you've married into the Fan family, Xiaoyun is also a servant of the Fan family. As the eldest young madam of the Fan family, what's wrong with me punishing a maidservant?"
Madam Fan nodded on the side. "What your elder sister-in-law said is right, daughter-in-law. You've been married into our family for nearly half a year now. You shouldn't still see yourself as an outsider and treat this maidservant as if she were your own relative, right?"
Ding Yuehua was about to deny it on the spot, but Madam Fan's words were clearly meant to attack her, trying to find fault with her, right?
But if she denied it, it would mean admitting that Xiaoyun was a servant of the entire Fan family.
Shu Yu stood behind and furrowed her brows slightly. Madam Fan and Mei Shi were clearly just causing trouble and trying to use their elder status to suppress Ding Yuehua.
Fortunately, Ding Yuehua wasn't just a girl who grew up in seclusion.
She quickly regained her composure and said, "Mother, regardless of the situation, punishment of a servant should always have a reason behind it. Otherwise, how can it be justified? What exactly did Xiaoyun do wrong? If elder sister-in-law wants to harm Xiaoyun, I..."
However, before she could finish her sentence, Madam Fan loudly interrupted her, "Daughter-in-law, don't change the subject. I'm asking you now, do you really consider yourself a part of the Fan family? Is your heart really with the Fan family?"
Ding Yuehua really didn't like this mother-in-law of hers.
Shu Yu couldn't help but chuckle. Ding Yuehua wanted to reason, but Madam Fan only wanted to cause trouble and use her elder status to suppress her daughter-in-law. She was firmly protecting her eldest son's wife, wasn't she?
"Daughter-in-law, you still haven't answered my question. Is this how you respect your elders?"
Ding Yuehua cursed silently in her heart. It was truly a case of a scholar encountering soldiers. Even if she had reasons, she couldn't explain them clearly. Fuck.
But at this moment, a familiar voice with a hint of amusement suddenly came from behind.
"Yuehua, I think your mother-in-law is right."
Ding Yuehua turned her head abruptly and saw Shu Yu standing behind her, actually echoing the words of her mother-in-law.
