Ah Ning hurriedly ran in and stood behind Shu Yu, asking, "Sister, what did you just say?"
Little Ya'er looked up at A Ning, then glanced at Shu Yu, not quite understanding how they were together.
But when she mentioned her grandfather, tears welled up in her eyes once again, streaming down in large drops.
Ah Ning became anxious and said, "Little sister, don't cry. Your eyes will get swollen from crying."
Shu Yu motioned for Ah Ning not to speak and nodded at Little Ya'er. "Yes, I promised you that I would take you to see your grandfather. Do you still want to go now?"
"Go, go."
Little Ya'er released her grip and wiped away her tears. She crawled to the edge of the bed and tried to get down.
Shu Yu held her back. "Don't rush, let's have something to eat first. After you finish eating, I'll take you there."
The little girl nodded repeatedly. Ah Ning quickly went to the kitchen and brought back a bowl of noodles with an egg on top.
The portion was not large, considering Little Ya'er was still recovering from her illness and had vomited before. Now, it was enough to warm her stomach.
Ah Ning fed her the noodles. The little girl had the typical demeanor of an older sister, just like when she took care of Bao Ya.
After finishing the meal and resting for a while, Shu Yu carried her fully dressed and walked out the door.
Ah Ning originally wanted to follow, but she was stopped by the old lady.
Although she said she wanted to become a doctor in the future and wasn't afraid of blood or death, she was still young, and it was a gloomy place. The old lady couldn't rest assured.
As for Little Ya'er, there was no choice. Old Cui was her only relative, and she had to see him one last time before he was buried.
Shu Yu drove a cart. Although the county yamen was not far from Liufang Lane, it was more convenient for Little Ya'er to ride in a cart considering her poor health.
When they arrived at the entrance of the county yamen, they found Jiang Kuanyu waiting there.
Shu Yu nodded at him and carried Little Ya'er into the county yamen.
Jiang Kuanyu turned his head to observe Little Ya Er and saw that the little girl was only looking anxiously at the entrance of the yamen. He asked her a few questions, but she didn't speak. He couldn't help but sigh.
The group was led by the officials to an outer room near the morgue. Hu Li had instructed them to put Old Cui's body alone in the outer room for them to see. It was to prevent them from going inside where the air was bad and the lighting was gloomy, which could scare them.
As soon as the little girl saw Old Cui's body, she struggled to get down and immediately cried, throwing herself onto him.
Shu Yu quickly held her back. "Don't touch, just look and talk from here."
Little Ya'er turned her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
Shu Yu had no choice. It was already good enough that she could bring her here. This was a murder case, and it was not appropriate for outsiders to see before the case was closed, let alone touch anything.
Moreover, this child was still sick, with a weakened immune system. In fact, it was not suitable for her to be close at all.
Before leaving the house, Shu Yu had specially prepared protective gear for her.
Little Ya'er was actually very sensible and ultimately listened to Shu Yu. She knelt not far away and cried loudly, speaking in fragments to Old Cui.
However, her voice was muffled, and Shu Yu couldn't hear clearly what she was saying.
In the end, the little girl cried so much that she almost fainted. Shu Yu hurriedly carried her out.
Jiang Kuanyu went to inquire about the progress of the case and learned that the Tang shi would come this afternoon, and the case would be finalized. Tang Shi would be sentenced to death for the two lives she had taken.
According to the rules, Little Ya'er should have been brought in for questioning, but given the special circumstances and her young age, they decided not to expose her to such a situation.
