Shu Yu frowned. Given Xiaoya's condition, it was impossible to force-feed her.
But she couldn't go without eating either.
Shu Yu thought for a moment, squatting at the head of the bed and gently patting Xiaoya's back. She whispered, "Xiaoya, how about eating something? After drinking the porridge, I'll take you to see your grandfather, alright?"
As expected, those words had an effect. Xiaoya suddenly opened her eyes and stared at Shu Yu intently.
After a while, her lips moved slightly, and large tears rolled down her face. Her voice was hoarse, like an injured little beast. "Grandfather... someone... hurt..."
"That bad person has been caught."
Xiaoya's eyes widened slightly, as if she thought Shu Yu was lying to her.
But Shu Yu nodded affirmatively. "He's been caught."
Xiaoya's tears flowed even more fiercely, but she still didn't make a sound. She silently cried.
Shu Yu continued to gently pat her back. "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid. The official is coming, and they won't let the bad people escape or harm you anymore."
Xiaoya continued to cry silently.
Shu Yu softly caressed her for a while, then reached out to Aunt Hu.
Aunt Hu quickly handed over the sweetened porridge, and when Shu Yu fed Xiaoya again, she didn't keep her mouth closed this time.
However, she had great difficulty eating, and what was worse, after a few spoonfuls, she suddenly leaned over the edge of the bed and vomited.
Not only did she vomit up the porridge that had just been fed to her, but she also vomited up the only bit of gastric acid left in her stomach.
After vomiting, she fainted once again.
Uncle Hu quickly came over to feel her pulse, pressed her forehead, and furrowed his brows tightly. "She's running a fever again, and it's even worse than before. I... I'm helpless."
In other words, the medicine Shu Yu had brought was no longer effective.
Xiaoya's condition wasn't just a simple fever caused by catching a cold. It was accompanied by fear, injury, and inflammation. Plus, she hadn't eaten anything for two days, so her immune system was weakened. It was already remarkable that she had managed to hold on until now.
Thinking quickly, Shu Yu picked up the thin blanket from the bed and wrapped Xiaoya in it. She said to Jiang Kuangyu, "master Jiang, I know a highly skilled doctor. I'll take Xiaoya into the city to see him. Let's postpone discussing the matter of the estate for a day. Can we talk about it tomorrow?"
Jiang Kuanyu had no objections. "Saving a life is more important. I'll trouble you with Xiaoya."
Shu Yu nodded and called for Da Niu and Lu Sanzhu. They immediately boarded the mule cart.
Before leaving, Shu Yu said to Jiang Kuanyu outside the window, "Also, when the official returns, please tell him to let my maid follow him back to the city."
"Rest assured."
Shu Yu lowered the curtains, and Da Niu shook the reins, driving the cart forward quickly.
Shu Yu rubbed her forehead. She hadn't expected that just buying an estate would lead to so many troubles.
This child must hold on. Nothing can happen to her.
Although the cart was moving quickly, the distance was quite far, and there was already a long line at the city gate when they arrived.
Shu Yu, using her position as a local lord, conveniently entered from the side.
The cart headed straight for Liufang Lane. Shu Yu didn't have time to go to her own house, so she knocked on the gate of the Meng family.
Zhao Xi and Meng Yunzheng were both at home, and even Ah Ning was studying medicine here.
When they saw Shu Yu holding a unconscious and disheveled little girl in her arms, everyone was stunned.
"Save her." Shu Yu handed the child over to Zhao Xi.
Facing the patient, Zhao Xi's expression immediately turned serious.
