Shu Yu was momentarily stunned. Who was this person? She turned to her eldest uncle, who had seen them off from the village.
Lu Dasong whispered, "He is also an uncle in the village. You can call him Uncle Liang."
Shu Yu went along with it and nodded slightly, "Uncle Liang, do you have something to discuss with me?"
Liang Wangsheng approached awkwardly, his expression seeming very unnatural. He seemed hesitant to speak, opened his mouth for a while, and then closed his eyes before whispering, "village lord Lu, I... I heard that you're hiring people to renovate the house. How about me? Can you hire me?"
This...
Shu Yu observed the person in front of her. He seemed honest and hardworking. His sleeves were rolled up halfway on his arms, revealing strong-looking arms that had clearly become accustomed to manual labor.
However, he was a bit thin, and his complexion wasn't great.
Since this person came to her individually, it was clear that he wasn't on her father's list.
In that case, Shu Yu didn't want to cause unnecessary trouble. She was about to tactfully say that they had enough manpower when Lu Dasong whispered beside her, "Ah Yu, he's quite suitable. Why not let him join?"
Shu Yu looked at Lu Dasong with surprise, and he nodded slightly.
Although she didn't know why this person wasn't on her father's list, her eldest uncle wasn't the kind of person to interfere in her decisions. If he said so, there must be a reason.
Shu Yu nodded, "Alright, Uncle Liang, come with the other uncles from the village to give it a try tomorrow. If you do well, you can stay."
She didn't make her words too definitive, just said to give it a try.
Liang Wangsheng's eyes lit up, and his excited face turned red. He kept saying, "Thank you, thank you, village lord Lu."
Shu Yu smiled, "No need to be so polite, Uncle Liang. Go back and prepare."
"Okay, then I'll go back."
Liang Wangsheng nodded to Lu Dasong again and quickly ran off.
After everyone had left, Shu Yu curiously asked Lu Dasong, "Uncle, why did you say he's quite suitable?"
Lu Da Song continued walking and explained, "Wangsheng is actually quite close to your father. Your father used to be a carpenter and learned the trade from his master. After his master went to the prefectural city, your father returned to Shishi Village and took on various jobs. Among the three of us brothers, your father was the most successful. He was diligent, honest, and skilled, so he received a lot of work."
"With so much work, he couldn't handle it alone. He wanted to ask your third uncle for help. You know your third uncle's personality, he can't stand being busy all day long, so he left after helping for a while."
As for Lu Dasong himself, although he was old, his hands weren't very dexterous. He could manage farming and taking care of crops, but doing carpentry work was difficult for him.
So Lu Erbai had found someone else, and that person was Liang Wangsheng.
Liang Wangsheng was about the same age as Lu Erbai, diligent, and willing to endure hardship.
"He has been working with your father for three years. They have great coordination and often finish the work before the designated time set by the employer. During that time, both families were doing well, until..."
Lu Da Song glanced at Shu Yu.
The latter understood, "Until I disappeared?"
"Yes, once you disappeared, your father searched for you everywhere. How could he have the energy to do anything else? Without your father's guidance, the workload decreased significantly since Wangsheng couldn't match the skills your father had learned as an apprentice. Without your father, there was less work to be done."
