Shu Yu didn't need a cook, which disappointed Li Shi greatly, but now she was eager to please Shu Yu and didn't dare to bother her too much.
Just then, there was a knock on the door, and the village chief's son had already brought all the people on the list.
The courtyard gate opened, and a group of people came bustling in.
Shu Yu took a quick look and said, "I didn't expect to hire so many people."
The village chief's youngest son, named Fan Da Bao, yes, his name was the same as Lu Da Bao's.
He quickly stepped forward and explained, "These dozen or so people are the ones the village lord wants to hire. The rest are their family members. I heard that when they heard about this, those who were at home all came along."
Of course, there were also some villagers who came to watch the excitement.
Shu Yu, "..."
Fine, they can watch if they want to.
She looked up and surveyed the group of people who were said to be hardworking according to Lu Erbai's description. Some were fat, some were thin, but they all had dark complexions, clearly accustomed to physical labor.
Shu Yu then said, "I assume uncles and older brothers have already heard from Fan Shu. Our family needs to hire some help, but because it's a busy farming season, we can't afford to take up too much labor force, lest there be no one to work in the fields. So we're asking the uncles and older brothers with strong labor force at home to help. Of course, even though it's considered helping, there will be wages."
As soon as they heard about wages, everyone present became happy.
Especially the family members of the dozen or so strong laborers, who had been worried all along, finally put their minds at ease.
Although the village lord said it was hiring, in this rural community, if anyone's family was building a house, they would go over and lend a hand, and a lunch would be enough.
Everyone helped each other out, whoever had time would work for half a day, and if they didn't have time, it was fine. Moreover, this was for helping the village lord build a house, so it was a kind of glory to be able to say that, how could they ask for wages?
But now it was the busy farming season, even if a family had many strong laborers, it would be uncomfortable to send one or two of them to help someone else, as they would be gone for a month.
Now that they had Shu Yu's permission, everyone couldn't help but feel happy.
Only then did Shu Yu continue, "Now I want to ask, among you, who can't make it for sure, then I won't take you. If everyone is available, I'll explain the situation of the house later, and we'll start work tomorrow, how about that?"
"We're all available and can go tomorrow."
"Yes, Brother Erbai thought of us right away, we'll definitely help him, wages or no wages, we'll do the job beautifully."
Everyone chimed in.
Shu Yu nodded, "Alright, that's settled then."
Since the decision was made, the other onlookers left, even though they wanted to continue listening, Fan Zhongzheng couldn't let them stay because Shu Yu had important matters to discuss.
It wasn't until only the workers were left in the courtyard that Shu Yu counted them, including Fan Da Bao, the village chief's youngest son, there were a total of thirteen people, which was actually quite a lot.
The courtyard gate closed again, and Shu Yu said, "As I said before, there will be wages. According to the going rate in Jiangyuan County, it's about thirty coins a day. And because the county is too far from Shiku Village, it would take too much time to travel every day, so we will provide room and board."
As soon as everyone heard room and board, their eyes lit up.
You see, the going rate in Jiangyuan County may be thirty coins a day, but that only includes one lunch, and they have to take care of everything else themselves.
If it was calculated according to Shu Yu's way, it would be more than forty coins a day.
Someone felt uneasy, "Village lord, this doesn't seem right. I know you want to take care of us uncles and older brothers, but Erbai has his hands full with work, we can't let you suffer, right?"
