How many servants? There was no specific number; it mainly depended on suitability.
But before Shu Yu could answer, Ding Yuehua already started calculating.
"Your family currently has two mule carts, so it would be appropriate to buy a carriage for your own use. As for the coachmen, I think three would be necessary. The village lord's status requires it."
Ding Yuehua lowered her voice. "And then there's the cook, kitchen helpers. Your family is small, but you still need three in the kitchen. You should have two maidservants by your side, as well as your grandmother, parents, siblings, and younger brother. There should always be servants attending to you. Additionally, there are the cleaners, gatekeepers, and stewards for the front and back gates. Although I haven't been to your mansion, I know it's not small, and it would require quite a few people just to clean it."
Shu Yu thought, her fingers weren't enough to count.
She rubbed her forehead and whispered, "Two coachmen would be enough, but we do need three kitchen staff."
Shu Yu didn't like having too many people around her. Even when she traveled, unless necessary, she preferred to drive the carriage herself. It provided freedom and convenience for carrying out discreet tasks as well.
As for the others, after their trip to the southwest, except for the old lady and the two children, everyone was capable of driving a carriage themselves.
So two coachmen would be sufficient.
"My parents aren't used to having people attend to them for now. They're uncomfortable with someone constantly following them. We don't need to rush that; let them get used to having servants in the house first. However, my grandmother does need someone to assist her. As for San Ya and Da Hu, if there isn't a suitable candidate, we won't choose anyone for them. But we do need cleaners and house stewards."
Ding Yue Hua was surprised. When she calculated it, there weren't many people.
"Are you sure it's enough?"
Shu Yu shook her head. "After buying servants, it's not easy to manage too many. I'll be very busy in the future, and sometimes I won't be at home, so I can only rely on my grandmother. It's easier to manage fewer people. If there are too many, it's prone to chaos. If we encounter servants with bad character, they might take advantage of their masters."
Thinking of the background of the Lu family, where the old lady had a peasant background, some servants might look down on her and deceive her.
Thinking about this, Ding Yue Hua stopped trying to persuade her.
Coincidentally, the staff from the servants house came over and invited them to the backyard, saying that everyone had gathered.
The servants house was quite large. As soon as Shu Yu and Ding Yuehua arrived in the backyard, they saw a considerable number of people standing there.
The servants house smiled and said, "Madam Fan, please take a look at the kind of servants you need. Shall I introduce them to you?"
"It's Shu Yu's family that needs the servants, so introduce them to her."
The servants house immediately shifted their gaze. After observing Shu Yu for a moment, he was sure that he had never seen this young lady before.
However, since she had a close relationship with Madam Fan, her background was certainly not simple.
He stepped back and followed Shu Yu. "Miss, do you have any preferences?"
Shu Yu thought for a moment. "Do you have any girls skilled in martial arts?"
This requirement was a bit high, but Shu Yu wanted to see if she could find someone like that here.
She needed a maid with good physical qualities, preferably someone capable of self-defense.
After all, she was constantly on the move. If she had a maid who got out of breath after three steps, it wouldn't be convenient for her and could even bring trouble.
The servants house hesitated for a moment. "Um, we don't have anyone like that."
Shu Yu felt a bit disappointed but continued to look further. Who knew that she would spot a girl in the corner who was looking at Ding Yue Hua in surprise.
