Who would have thought that while Shu Yu was having dinner, she had this thought in her mind. But when she went to sleep at night, Da Ya handed her a wooden box.
As she opened the box, she saw several large-denomination banknotes and some silver coins shining inside.
Shu Yu was certain that Da Ya didn't have this much money on her. She looked up, puzzled, and asked, "Where did this money come from?"
Da Ya's face showed a mix of embarrassment and anger. "It's from Zhao, Doctor Zhao."
A metaphorical question mark appeared above Shu Yu's head.
Da Ya pursed her lips and whispered, "Yesterday, he talked to me for a long time and even mentioned that he forgot how much wealth he had. He said he would go back and count it before telling me. And today, he actually came, but when he saw me, he just handed me all the money, saying I should keep it for him. I... I..."
She wanted to return the money, but Zhao Xi ran away faster than a rabbit.
She chased after him to the Meng family's doorstep, knocking for a long time, but no one answered.
Today, the old lady was supposed to take Da Hu to the school to visit Master Wen, but early in the morning, their neighbors came over, and the old lady couldn't leave. So she asked Da Hu to find Meng Yunzheng and let him take Da Hu to meet Master Wen.
That's why Meng Yunzheng wasn't at home, and Da Ya didn't know if Zhao Xi was deliberately avoiding her or had escaped somewhere.
Da Ya had no choice but to bring the box back home.
Shu Yu was stunned by Zhao Xi's audacious move. She took out the banknotes and counted them. Goodness, it was over two thousand taels of silver.
She never expected this guy to be so wealthy.
Shu Yu closed the box and told Da Ya, "I'll return this money to Zhao Xi tomorrow."
It wasn't appropriate for her sister to offer her entire wealth like this.
Da Ya breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Ah Yu."
In her mind, Shu Yu calculated that although two thousand taels was a considerable amount, Zhao Xi said he wanted to open a clinic in the future, and this sum might not be enough.
After all, the price of medicinal herbs was not low, and a clinic needed to have some precious herbs, such as ginseng, which were even more expensive.
It seemed wise for him to say he would work as a doctor in another clinic for two years and earn more money to save up.
Shu Yu put the box away and the next day, she took San Ya with her to the Meng family.
Zhao Xi was still happily enjoying himself, looking quite pleased.
But when he saw Shu Yu put the box in front of him, his smile froze instantly.
He quickly took a step back. "Wh-what does this mean? Did Da Ya reconsider and refuse me? I... I..."
Shu Yu suppressed the urge to roll her eyes and asked San Ya to go play aside before saying to Zhao Xi, "What are you thinking? My sister hasn't made up her mind yet, and you've already handed over your entire wealth to her. Isn't that putting pressure on her?"
Zhao Xi blinked and tried to process Shu Yu's words. Then he became elated. "Are you saying that Da Ya hasn't decided yet? So, there's still hope for me, right?"
"Hmm," Shu Yu nodded and pushed the box closer to him. "Keep this for yourself. If my sister really marries you in the future, you can give it to her then."
Zhao Xi's forehead almost turned into a knot. "But I heard that if I give all my money to the girl, she will feel that I value her, and she will feel at ease in her heart."
Another metaphorical question mark appeared above Shu Yu's head. "Who said that?"
Zhao Xi silently turned his head and looked at a figure in the courtyard, his expression gradually becoming grim.
