It was fast food serving. I took food out to people. It was the Fourth of July. We could not get orders to come up bc there were so many to run. It was a nightmare. I cried. People waited half an hour while some people waited five mins bc of the way our system loaded drink only orders vs food&drink orders

I worked at a restaurant that prepared Thanksgiving for 50 to 70 tables of people. We did not advertise, so we had 2 tables total the whole day. We ended up with just staff and family eating.

Kinda like the reverse of my experience in Australia when I lived there for a few years. At Christmas when it's 100 degrees outside, the Brits and Americans were heating up the kitchens like an inferno with roast turkey, potatoes, and fixings. Meanwhile, the Aussies grabbed champagne, rotisserie chicken, and cold salads and headed to the beach for their family gatherings! Seems Shawn the chef had not experienced an American Thanksgiving yet. Probably his worst shift too. Strewth!

Wow, you win, that sounds like a complete horrorshow! "Why is everyone ordering the turkey," I'm dying

Shudder.

I’ve just paused a couple of minutes in. I’m Australian & I was in the UK from ‘98-2004. Aussie chefs were ‘flavour of the month’ internationally for most of that time. The moment Drew said ‘his name was Sean’ I thought ‘bet he was Australian’ 🤣🤣

Did you stay long enough to experience Thanksgiving the following year, hopefully set up for success, Drew? I felt this to the core. At the FS Maui, we have the same group you speak of from December 20th to January 5th EVERY YEAR. It's called Festive. These families have been coming here for 25-35yrs. These families have had children and have grown. They carry on this tradition. The hotel has changed over the years, but during Festive, it reverts back to the 'good old days', so the blur you're speaking of exists for 2.5wks, not as bad as what you experienced tho. We actually have a Festive board that lists ALL the families and their preferences, allergies and ridiculous demands. There's a family that flies in a huge box of bagels from NY. Another family has their clothes/belongings mailed ahead. A few of the families get together to have BBQ event and literally has hula hoops stored at the hotel for one of the many contests during this event. Insanity!

You mean there is life during waiting when it's not a nightmare blur? 😂
Katie
I’ve felt that nightmarish blur while serving too many times. 😂
