I love it ..is a shame that was flop; also the commercialization of superheros is far more interesting than "The boys" COKE is just interested in just promoting the product "no large conspiracy behind it" (For ex. I heard that Pepsi gave some of the budget for Madame Web for some reason).

You couldn't turn on a TV in Australia in 1999-2000 without seeing that Smash Mouth music video, it was everywhere. But when I finally saw the movie I thought it was a disappointment given that amazing cast and I never revisited it in the years since.

Gentlemen this may not be the place but I think many would enjoy a somewhat seldom book review series. I recently read Americam Psycho and it was a fucking trip. It almost made me question whether I was actually capable of reading correctly just because of how odd it is written.

After watching Mystery Men for the first time since renting it from Hollywood Video, I can unequivocally say that it is a giant piece of dog shit. The director, Kinka Usher, must have really studied the Joel Schumacher playbook of making a shit comic book movie, and I can see why he went on to direct Volvo commercials afterwards. Ben Stiller gave his absolute worst, "comedic" performance of his career, and that's really sayin something. I would've honestly preferred to see fuckin Dane Cook in the lead role. Hank Azaria and Wes Studi had some funny moments though, and I thought the design of Champion City looked pretty cool. I was shocked to see how many favorable reviews it had on IMDB, but I'm guessing that's due to the world building. At least, it had that going for it.

My (Mary) older cousin did an excellent Blue Raja cosplay a couple years ago. The first time I watched Mystery Men it was a videotape through InterLibrary Loan and scrolling across the bottom was ‘promotional copy’ the whole time. Not sure how some random-ass library in Minnesota had that in circulation in the 2010s. Steve watched again recently and thought ‘ehhh not as good as I remember.’ We have both the Shrek and Digimon the Movie soundtracks in the car and halfway considered getting the Mystery Men soundtrack too lol

I honestly loved it when it came out. I was 16 at the time and it definitely hit that late 90s teen vibe. To this day the line, "I'm invisible! Can you see me?" runs through my head at random times.

Interesting, high concept film the studio didn’t know how to market. I remember the ads and thinking it was a straight up superhero movie.

I hadn’t heard of the movie until you guys started talking about it on the pod. Saw it for the first time two years ago and enjoy it. As a Ben stiller fan he’s really good as the lead and he works much better in that role then the Blue Raja role which he was initially offered.
