November Dormitory Diary Entry - Ura Takazumi
🕑 Added 2024-11-18 23:00:02 +0000 UTCHello! This is an animator speaking. Oh, I mean, Ura speaking!
Here’s my dormitory diary entry for November.
Since starting key animation last month, every day has felt incredibly fulfilling. I almost feel like I don’t even need days off anymore!
I have three colleagues who started key animation at the same time as me, and being as competitive as I am, I’m determined to not get outpaced—not in quality or in the number of cuts I complete. In fact, I’m pushing myself to match, if not surpass, the senior animators one level above us.
One thing I’ve realized since starting key animation is how useful it would be to know more about cameras. For example, when I’m drawing backgrounds and want to use a telephoto lens effect, I have no idea how large something like a window behind the character should appear. I think with a wide-angle lens, the background captures more, and with a telephoto, the scene compresses and shows less background—something like that?
I’m learning a lot from the senior animators, but this has really made me want to get a camera to practice and develop a better sense for it. Not that I can afford one right now, though—they’re pricey!
