"Edmund, what's wrong?" Orpheus steadied himself against the wall and made his way over to his son, who had just had a violent surge of magic.
"I don't know. I think it's Aiden. Something's happened to him," Edmund said, anxiety tightening his voice.
Behind him, a golden clock flickered in and out of sight.
"Then it's time we left," Orpheus said after a moment's thought.
"Leave? Where to? Are we abandoning them?" Edmund's voice rose.
"We are the last of the Lestrange bloodline. Once that lunatic Bellatrix returns, she'll drag us down to hell with her. Wake up, Edmund!" Orpheus snapped.
With a flick of his wand, he packed their belongings. The family slipped away under the cover of night, shielded by their house-elves.
But things did not go as planned.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Green light split the rainy night. One of the house-elves fell dead.
"Where do you think you're going this late, traitors?" a shrill, half-mad voice called out.
A woman with wild hair and a black robe stepped from the trees, flanked by a group of masked Death Eaters.
"Bellatrix," Orpheus hissed, pupils contracting.
He shoved the case into Edmund's arms and pressed a Portkey into his hand.
"Run. Get to France first, then use their influence to reach Africa. Use the Fidelius Charm. They won't find you."
The Portkey began to vibrate. Space twisted around Edmund, pulling him away.
"No! Father!" Edmund knew what Orpheus intended. He reached out, trying to grab him.
"Not a chance!" Bellatrix and the others fired spells to disrupt the transfer.
Orpheus unleashed a devastating blasting curse. The other Lestrange house-elves threw themselves at the Death Eaters.
Through the warping space, the last thing Edmund saw was a green curse striking his father.
"No!" His scream stretched out endlessly as space stabilised around him. When it settled, Edmund stood on a Paris street.
"Bellatrix Lestrange," Edmund said, golden gears appearing in his eyes. Hatred twisted his fists tight.
A Black man in a dark coat approached and helped Edmund to his feet.
"Hello. You're from the Lestrange family, yes? Weren't there supposed to be two of you?" the man asked.
"My father… was killed by Death Eaters," Edmund said, his voice flat. His eyes were dead. The sudden catastrophe had left him reeling.
"My condolences," the man said, clapping a hand on Edmund's shoulder. "I'm from the Kama family. Yusuf Kama. I'll take you to Africa."

Yusuf Kama was a descendant of the man who had once stood with Newt Scamander against Grindelwald. Born a Squib, he had been barred from the magical world until the conversion ritual restored his magic.
Yusuf led Edmund through back roads and hidden paths, skirting the French border. With the help of a second Portkey, Edmund was finally sent to Egypt.
In Egypt, Edmund was brought to the headquarters of the Solar Barque and introduced to the man in charge: Amin.
"It's been a while, Mr Lestrange," Amin said, extending his hand.
"You're Aiden's student? What the hell is going on?" Edmund blurted, questions spilling out.
"Take it easy. I'll explain everything. First, sign this contract," Amin said, producing a clay tablet.
Without a word, Edmund slashed open his palm with his wand and let the blood drip onto the stone.
"Er… you just had to touch it with your magic. But never mind. Blood carries magic too," Amin said with an awkward smile, tucking the tablet away.
"That stubborn streak is exactly like your teacher's," Edmund muttered.
"Anyway, how much do you know about the Deep Realm Kings?" Amin asked with a knowing smile.
He recounted the long, tangled history between the Deep Realm Kings and the British wizarding world.
"So Aiden is trapped in Avalon, and the Dark Lord has secretly taken over all of Europe?" Edmund said, stunned.
"More or less," Amin replied, signalling for someone to bring Edmund food.
"And me? Why go to all this trouble to smuggle me to Egypt?" Edmund asked between bites.
"Because of the prophecy tied to your family," a cold female voice said from behind him.
Edmund turned and saw a girl with long golden hair and strikingly beautiful features.
"Who are you?" he asked, confused.
Snap.
With a flick of her fingers, the block on his mind lifted. Recognition flooded in.
"Miss Greengrass. Why… no, never mind. I shouldn't be surprised you lot can pull something like this off," Edmund said with a sigh.
"What's this prophecy about?"
"The Lestrange family prophecy: Tycho Dodonus. You are now the Avenger. When you return home, we will gather a great force of resistance and make Europe the battlefield against Voldemort," Arthursi said, clenching her fists. Her deep blue dragon eyes blazed with power. How dare that woman lay hands on the prize she'd been grooming for six years? Unforgivable.
"Terrifying, isn't she? She's been like this for a week," Amin whispered to Edmund.
Edmund swallowed and nodded.
The door swung open. A tanned Egyptian girl with sharp features walked in.
"Miss Arthursi, you're leaking your aura again. Someone outside just fainted," Nura said, dragging Arthursi away.
Before leaving, she winked at Amin with her left eye. He grinned like an idiot.

Elsewhere, in the German Ministry of Magic, Tom had successfully claimed the Minister's seat and taken control of the European Wizarding Confederation.
At the same time, the Eastern and American magical communities loudly withdrew from the International Confederation of Wizards and sealed off all channels of communication with the European wizarding world.
The two massive wizarding blocs sat back as if watching a show, and European wizards cursed them bitterly.
But what could they do? They had raised the pure-blood ideology themselves. They had passed it down. Now Voldemort was their ultimate reckoning, and they could only endure it.
So the wizards willing to resist, guided by a subtle force, made their way to Egypt in orderly fashion, gathering strength.
This puzzled the Egyptian Muggle government. Were the Europeans trying to steal antiquities again?
Egypt's Muggle authorities tightened border controls, leading to repeated clashes with the wizards over entry permits and no shortage of absurd incidents.
