RW Chapter 11
🕑 Added 2025-01-09 23:05:58 +0000 UTC“Yep thank you for the seeds too. I’ll be on my way then… Yep, you as well.” I waved goodbye to the nice farmer who just sold me my chickens, cows, and some seeds for when the weather calmed down. Finding a cargo trailer for sale and finding where I could buy farm animals took up most of the rest of my day. I at least got everything I wanted, plus pigs. I hadn’t really thought about bacon but that was a big part of breakfast and they didn’t take much to keep fed.
Before the day ended I wanted to go buy some goats and ducks to add more variety to what we could eat in the future. The biggest problem I was having was time. Everything took time and I only had so much but I wanted to do so much with it. Vicky was already getting weird looks before I showed up with a trailer full of barnyard animals, soon they’d know why, and some might even come and ask to buy them for themselves.
Large pallets of different types of food, four pallets of canned foods taller than me, and the same went for rice, beans, and raw corn. My eyes went up questioning before she said. “Unpopped popcorn lasts pretty much forever.” She had an entire pallet of different alcohols and sauces as well, all of which she said should last forever. The final one looked to be a mixture of different long-life foods and even jerky. Having someone do the logistics was a welcome surprise and I was glad she was taking this seriously. She bit into an apple as she asked.
“So, what’s the plan going forward? What else do you think we need?” I handed her back the card before asking. “You got another like that… That one is almost empty.” She didn’t ask questions, just put the spent card on the left side of her cardholder before pulling out one from the right side. “If you’re wrong I’m so gonna kick your ass for making me waste all this money.”
I replied back. “I wish I was wrong, if this didn’t happen I’d be fine giving you back all the money we spent preparing but I’ve lived through it already… You don’t want to be hungry and not know where your next meal is coming from. That type of fear sucks dick.” Multiple people were still unloading crates as I started dragging all the items inside. The animals would need to be given permission by everyone to be moved out of their trailer. That won’t happen today, but tomorrow I doubt we’d get as much blowback.
They play down how bad the wave is but it completely wiped out Canada and fucked up the US in the process once the tidal wave broke. The month-long process was the rippling effects of multiple tidal waves crashing and breaking against the earth and pushing its way inland, if a tidal wave reached the US it would destroy all the buildings it came across killing everyone in its path.
People knowing about our supplies could be a problem but that was if they could break in without me noticing. By the time someone made a plan, we’d already have a small group of survivors here protecting the supplies. I could store them underground in concrete with only a hole large enough for a hand to fit through to store and collect them. That way everyone wouldn’t know how small my storage space really was and I could lie and say that everything was in my storage and if I died they’d lose it all.
It was about keeping my cards close to my chest. It was worth revealing that I had a power but it wasn’t worth revealing I had three powers. I could play the good cop with my storage power and the bad cop with my zombie power. I’d let people know that I wasn’t the main guy, the guy wearing the bone mask was, but I’d be the guy wearing the bone mask. They’d be worried about dealing with him but I was him and they might let me know they were targeting me by talking to me about it. That would be hilarious. ‘Hey, let’s take down the head boss so we can rule except you’re secretly the head boss and I don’t know.’
Vicky grabbed one of the smaller boxes that people weren’t moving into her house and walked over to me. “Hey, you want to go inside and have some coffee? And by have some coffee, I mean fuck our brains out.” I burst into laughter as I answered. “Can’t going to be busy tonight… Speaking of which, is there anywhere I can hide a few corpses for the next few days?”
Without missing a beat she kept walking towards the door. “Holy fucking shit Danny boy, talk about a boner killer. I ask if you want to have sex and your response is no, I’m going to commit crimes, and also can I make you accessory to a felony? I guess storing them in the basement should be fine. Just, I don’t want to see them and only for a few days. Don’t let them stink up the place.”
She was swaying her ass in an obviously provocative manner and I had to talk about the elephant in the room sooner rather than later. “Hey, before that… What are we to each other? Like, boyfriend and girlfriend, or are you just using me to vent your frustrations over Jake.”
She turns and hurls the box of food at me. “Why the fuck are you bringing up my ex? Fuck him and fuck you! What do you want to eat when you get back!?” I don’t really know what I did but I guess I fucked up at some point. She didn’t outright say she was my girlfriend and I let her know I plan to have more than one lover after the apocalypse kicks off… Well, I’ll let it go for now while she figures out what she wants to do in the future.
Even her basement was fancy and clean. I made my way to some cabinets and looked inside to see old-timey tools. That would be a no-go for where I could store the corpses, I heard her great-grandfather started as a farmer before he became a businessman. Getting blood or burnt bits of flesh on the tools meant to signify where they came from was probably a bad idea. There was a bunch of UPS boxes in one corner… That’ll do for now.
I dumped the bodies out to clear up space just in case I needed it. Speaking of which, now is just as good as any time to absorb that core. I pull out the sword before digging into her head. This part was always gross no matter how many times I did it. It was weird thinking about absorbing a core for the first time now after everything. I went through an entire other apocalypse without absorbing a single one and now I’m going to absorb the most powerful one possible before the next apocalypse even starts.
It was odd piercing a version of someone I slept with last night but at the same time, I had grown acclimatized to death and bodies around me. I’ve dug through hundreds, if not thousands of zombie brains for these cores. I’ve never seen any bigger than a tier seven though and for that one, I had to wait and was watched by a crowd of other enhanced while I created the extra space inside the truck.
It was big, if a tier one was the size of an eyeball this was the size of an apple. There was a tangible feeling of energy radiating from it and I got almost high off the feeling when it was in my hand. My whole body shook as I absorbed it, my zombie power was the only reason I didn’t explode and cause similar damage to a hydrogen bomb. It felt like my bones were melting as I almost blacked out from the pain while also feeling the most euphoric I ever had before.
I felt the bonds holding my powers snap as all three grew rapidly. Even with just the zombie power, I doubt I would have lived if I tried to absorb it. Blood began to seep from my eyes, nose, ears, and mouth as I finished absorbing the core. Now to see what I gained from this… Maybe after a quick nap here on the floor first.
