HPSU Chapter 05

We made our way inside as Neville fell off the boat. He was placed on the other side by a tentacle and as I was about to jump in to see what it was I had a hand placed on my shoulder to stop me from doing so. It was Hagrid, he was the magical beasts teacher and was asked to keep an eye on the students. I could only sigh at the missed opportunity.
We met the teacher I recognized. She made a few trips to our home before, I think my uncle called her Minny. I obviously couldn’t call her that. She greeted us with her name before stating the four houses we could be sorted into. Everyone went along getting placed in the house they mostly wanted. Draco ended up in Slytherin, same with Dudley. Hermoine got sorted into Gryffindor, which was odd, I pegged her as a Ravenclaw.
Finally, it was my turn. I walked towards the sorting hat. He spoke. “Hmm, difficult very difficult. Smart, loyal, brave, and ambitious. You could be in any house you want.” I whispered. “Gryffindor.” The sorting hat questioned. “Are you sure? You could do great things in Slytherin.” I could only smile. “Yes. I want to follow in my parents' footsteps.”
The hat yelled out. “GRYFFINDOR!” I smiled and took my seat. As I was waved over to my friends I waited for the speech from Dumbledore. He spoke before making eye contact with me for a brief moment. It went unnoticed that my ring lit a dull red for the briefest of moments before going back to normal.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
I finished my first set of classes and… I was disappointed. I get that they needed to teach from the very beginning for new muggle families but I was on second or third year skill for most classes. Maybe even higher for dueling and flying. I hadn’t expected Snape to try and read my mind the moment our eyes met. My family ring began glowing red and screaming that someone attempted to read my mind.
Somehow he didn’t get in trouble for that. The apology he spoke through his teeth let me know how sincere it was. The man is disgusting and it didn’t make sense that I wasn’t allowed to pick my optional class like everyone else. No matter how much I tried to swap for some reason I was forced into the potions class. Hermoine and Ron were also forced into this class for some reason.
Out of all the choices for my electives, potions would be close to last. The teacher was known for showing extreme favoritism towards Slytherin. Most Slytherins take the class because of it. Malfoy and Dudley looked over at us as Snape asked me questions a first-year student shouldn’t know. After getting the first one correct, mainly because Draught of Living Death sounded cool and I remembered it, I didn’t know the rest. I could have ignored the blatant favoritism but as he targetted me I knew I was put in this room for a reason I didn’t understand. Instead of playing in whoever's plot(most likely Dumbledore) I’d rather just not even go.
Halfway through the class I stood up and walked out of the room. Snape came running up behind me followed by my two friends. “What is the meaning of this Potter.” I just turned around with a smile on my face. “Tell Dumbledore if I can’t pick my electives then I’d rather drop out of school. I came here to learn the same things my parents did, not be watched by the headmaster's creepy ass spy.”
He was reading the thoughts of his students and I’d rather not have him mentally kink-shaming me because he saw something he shouldn’t have. I didn’t have the patience for whatever plan the old man had for me. It was clear he wanted me for something and was purposely trying to cripple my growth. Both electives potions and herbs were two I never would have picked and I’d be bored to death if I was stuck with them.
He still approached before laying his hands on me. “You must stay in my class, Potter!” I could only chuckle as I ripped his hand from my shoulder. “Don’t touch me! I don’t have to do shit professor bad touch. If you really want to go there I know for sure the slap on the wrist for trying to read my memories would draw more attention than Dumbledore would want. Why the hell are you digging around young students' minds anyway?”
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
“And that’s why you weren’t allowed to choose your classes. Now that we have that mix-up sorted I believe you owe Professor Snape here an apology.” Dumbledore still tried to put me on a path he wanted me to walk but I wasn’t playing his game. “I’d rather quit Hogwarts than be stuck with your spy for the next seven years Albus. If you really want to play this game imagine this for a headline. Dumbledore failed the boy who lived for a second time.”
I had been told enough that I knew who was the real two culprits for my parent's death and one of them was in the room with me. If Dumbledore didn’t have such a light touch. If he wasn’t so afraid of killing a student he taught everything too. A student that some might say had a close relationship with Dumbledore, perhaps too close. All signs pointed to an intimate relationship between Voldemort and Dumbledore.
A relationship that caused the deaths of many wizards and almost ended with a madman taking over the wizarding world of Britain in one go. If he put him down like a dog before he grew his army then Voldemort wouldn’t have been such a huge problem. He didn’t start out stronger than Dumbledore, Dumbledore could have stopped him in the first, second, or even third year of his reign of terror. He just didn’t, he couldn’t because of their relationship.
His head just slumped down as he looked defeated. “Harry my boy, I have no idea why you think.” I cut him off. “Because you’re a schemer. I wouldn’t trust you with my own safety let alone the safety of all the wizarding world of England. My uncle told me you had many chances to stop Voldemort but didn’t because you thought you could talk him down. Well, you were wrong and that got my parents killed. If you think I’ll ever forgive you for being so foolish then you’re wrong.”
I left them silent as even Ron and Hermoine were shocked to hear information that many of the higher-ups in the wizarding world didn’t know. I turned to walk out of Dumbledore’s tower before I stopped to add one more thing. “Oh, I also remember my Aunt Petunia talking about one of my mother's friends growing up. She said even when they were little she could tell he was a creep. I can see she was clearly right. She said my father bullied you. Are you really that pathetic? You’d really pick on an orphaned child because his father bullied you?”
With that, I finally walked out of the room. Both of the other students who were also not allowed to choose their own electives spoke. “Bloody hell. I wasn’t expecting any of that at all.” Hermoine only said. “I would normally agree with the teachers but he was clearly targeting you. If I knew he could read my thoughts I wouldn’t have made so much eye contact with him.”
