If he believed his parents would be sypathetic because of his deafness, he could have just told them the truth. I don't see the connection. My reaction at the time was that he's afraid of the father, and I want to know what caused him to be deaf, if it really was a disease and not trauma of some kind.

Well his parents believed him just like tht so ig indirectly it was because of the deafness

Sex, then friends, then employee... reminds me of my first relationship. As far as complications go, I can see a few but that's just my experience. He didn't use his deafness to lie, he just lied about who dropped the bottle.
