Years ago I read Mirror of Simple Souls; I never thought of Marguerite as precursor to any Protestant reformer.

I have read a bit on Julian but not much at all. But you are definitely right! And other people have noticed the protestant connection too. She may have been a part of the slow build towards the reformation.

Awesome! I'm surprised I haven't heard of her before you mentioned The Mirror of Simple Souls in a previous video. Have you read much about Julian of Norwich or Simone Weil? I notice some similarities to the ideas and approach of those two other women. There's almost something proto-Protestant in her idea of virtue being accomplished solely through the will of God and not at all through the will of the believer. Though I doubt many of the Reformers would have claimed her as an influence, because she doesn't seem to emphasize faith, and because of her mysticism and monism.
