Sneak Peek at The Entertainer
🕑 Added 2021-01-04 05:41:00 +0000 UTCIt's hard to think of any place that is effectively a prison as home, but the Twilight House comes as close as you are going to get for the next five years. It has been kept in good repair, enjoying the economic boom the rest of the town profits from. It's far from the only entertainment house in the city, but it has a better reputation than most among both it's patrons and it's workers.
The best thing you can do for yourself if you can sing, play, act or perform is to get yourself signed on to a house as soon as you can. The house feeds you, clothes you, gives you a roof over your head and, the most important part of any performers life, finds you work. Most houses negotiate your contract and take 25% of your fee up front for room and board. Of course if you want to earn a little extra through more private performances, that's entirely up to you. The law in Verdant frowns upon brothels.
You wake up early while the rest of the entertainer's are still asleep. If you're lucky you can sneak out of here before Mistress Pam'ella wakes up. Just a quick run to the kitchen to grab a bite to eat...
From the around the corner you can see sunlight streaming in the window and a short shadow bustling about. You slap your hand over your face and smack your head into the back of the wall. Canny little cactus. She must have known you snuck back in last night. Nothing to do now but face the music.

"Mistress Pam'ella! Where is my favorite little green bean-YEEP!" You duck as a shoe spins through the air, cutting across the kitchen and narrowly missing your head. She can't be too mad if she didn't hit you.
"Don't you green bean me! Where were you been all evening?" Standing on a chair in the kitchen, tapping her bare foot impatiently with a steady glare in your direction in a gabelin woman with jet black hair and a demeanor of a general on a battlefield.
"I was working the main street as you had asked me..." You skid back as she reaches for a cup and holds it in her hand like a throwing axe.
"You..." She says, gesturing with the cup. "Were down at the docks again." You jumps down off the chair and approaches you with her long ears back almost to her skull. "You. Were. At. The. Docks."
You don't answer, but your lips are sucked all the way into your mouth. How does she know? How does she ALWAYS know?
"What have I told you about the docks? About those foreign folk coming in? Huh? You think I want to loose one of my best workers to some of those pock marked gangrenous diseases they bring in? Huh?" She gestures aggressively with the cup, your eyes following every movement. "Just last week Mistress Gellvi had to shelf poor Trelan cause his cockles are are inflamed and swollen up."
