SNEAK PEEK - ALLEOPE THE HARPY
🕑 Added 2019-01-07 04:36:28 +0000 UTCOf all the strange and wondrous creatures that inhabit our world, harpies have quite possibly the worst reputation. And it is not entirely undeserved. A hardy and daring species, harpies are also exceedingly rare. It is difficult to find a mated pair, and thus even more difficult to find offspring. Prone to desert surroundings and high cliffs, the harpies aren't exactly welcoming to outsiders. It's rather being harried by a particularly large and lethal blue jay. However, they are prone to gifts. Any bit of jewelry or something shiny is proven to offer them distraction, and they are very fond of earrings in particular. If one is planning on trying to soothe their tempers, harpies are very fond of hair dyes, and if gifted with a few bottles will be happy to talk to you. They enjoy dipping the tips of their feathers in it, creating some very inventive patterns and coloration.
Most harpies bare a striking resemblance to birds of prey such as hawks, falcons, and ospreys. However there are a select few who more closely resemble vultures in their appearance. Harpies are omnivorous, but they do have a strong preference for meat. Bringing local game with you can save the dedicated a great deal of trouble and possible a limb.
Harpies do live together, most often in a murder of about three to five females. Occasionally a male will take up a position within the group, but it would be a mistake to assume that they are in charge. Harpies frequently fight among themselves, but it is usually the oldest who gains control by beating the others into submission. If no harpy male can be found for a prolonged period of time, it's not unusual for the females to harry a human male to sate them. As harpies and humans are genetically compatible, one should be cautious about their own desires and where they spill them.
Harpies do not give live birth. Their eggs are about the size of a cantaloupe, and they usually have only one at a time, though twines are not out of the question. While harpies might be quarrelsome at best towards other adults, they are loving and attentive parents!
