“What?”
“Spicy foods?”
Tim set down the hamburger, eyeing Kon-El over the table. “Whats not to get about it?”
“I'm not saying I don't like them. I'm saying I wanna know who grabbed a plant that developed a burning sensation in order to protect itself from being eaten and said 'You know what? I'm gonna eat this. Not only am I gonna eat it, I'm gonna mix it into everything because I love it when my mouth burns painfully.”
Tim couldn't help snickering, setting down the chipotle aioli sauce. “Okay so I think it's like any other food product we discovered through trial and error. I mean who decided to brew mild poisons and start ingesting them? Who decided to sneak past stinging angry hoards of insects to get sweet sticky stuff and then thought I'm gonna keep whole colonies of these things! I honestly think we're a species who's Risk vs Reward scales are way off balance.”
“I mean I've been to other planets and you wouldn't believe how bland most of the food is. I gotta be polite because it's an ambassador thing. But I started bringing bottles of hot sauce along. That did not end well.” Kon sighed.
“I heard. You got accused of an assassination attempt on the Prime Minister of Klaxar 9. I would have paid to see that.” Tim grabbed a couple of fries off the plate. “The Klaxonites were not ready for the power of ghost peppers. Though that kinda brings up a weird question. How come you get affected by hot sauce?”
“I don't. Well at least not traditional hot sauces. In fact thats why I love them so much. Most of them aren't spicy enough to bur my tongue, but I get all the subtle flavores. The smokey, peppery, garlic, tangy, sweet. If I want spicy I have to eat ghost pepper based stuff to get that burn and even then it's not much.” He popped out his bottle, poured it all over his chicken fingers and ate it without an ill effects. “See? Clark is trying to teach me how to make my face redden so it looks like I'm getting overheating.”
“You know I'm half pissed half thrilled to hear this cause it brings up such a weird array of other questions about Kryptonian invulnerability.” Tim leaned in closer and tipped his burger in some of the hot sauce that had spilled over to the side. “Maybe I'll get the chance to ask them.”
Kon looked up at him with a shy smile. “Maybe you will.”
Tim felt a goofy flutter come over his chest and took a bite of the burger. “Oh! OH! OH! Bad idea! BAD IDEA!”
