Puck draws back the thick curtain of willow branches, leading you into the fray. The music of panpipes and drums is overpowering, and it is as if you have been drawn into another world. Dozens of people, and not-people, dance about, whipped by invisible winds in a swirl of sheer fabrics. Lights dance in the air above you, as if swaying to the beat. Lavishly decorated cushions and carpets are strewn about, providing ample opportunity for the crowd to lounge as they please. At the center of the party is a table laden so high with rich foods that it bows under the weight.
At first no one seems to have noticed your arrival. Puck keeps you close by his side. Is he protecting you? Surely you aren't in any real danger. As the music continues, you see some of the dancers break off from the jig, and it is then you begin to realize that the sheer fabrics were not cloth at all.
They are wings.
You can not move. The veil is draw away from your eyes, and Puck's grip on your shoulder grows tighter as you see many things become clear to you. There is a man with eyes bejeweled like a dragon fly sipping a thick purple wine from a cup made of bone. There is someone who doesn't seem to be male or female, which you can tell by the fact that they are entirely naked, who is letting their long black hair be braided by two small horned and hoofed creature. They seam to be fighting over how to do the plait correctly. Several of the people here have long earns and sylvian features drawn up into arrogant and beautiful expressions as they observe the others. At the head of the table is a woman with skin like ocher and eyes like eternity. Her head is shorn, but the amount of gold draped against her body flakes off as if she is leaving a trail for admirers to follow.
"Ah, my errant jester returns at last." She speaks, barely acknowledging you. "And here I thought you would spend your whole night at the Madame's party."
"It was a delight, truth be told. But nothing compares to my Mistresses court." Puck bows grandly. You now see his has sprouted little curled horns from his brow, and the dark freckles which once adorned his face are now spread all over his body. He is strange, and beautiful, and he takes your hand. "This is my plus one for the evening. I have promised to return them to the party in reasonable condition."
The woman smiles, and finally graces you with her attention. "One shouldn't make promises they do not know if they can keep."
