A Mental Pull

* * *
You were about to get into bed when you felt it. A pull at you mind, at you body. Beckoning, insisting that you go downstairs. You followed, curious. What had brought this about? With each step down the staircase, you felt the influence getting stronger.
As you reached the ground floor, the instinct changed. Now there was a new direction. The front door. Something important was at the front door. You moved closer. A part of you was feeling nervous. But that part was small compared to the excitement you felt.
You reached the door, and pulled it open. A figure was facing you, smiling. “Hello, friend. Can I come in? It’s such a cold night.” They pulled their coat tight around them as they spoke. Maybe you should have told them no. Maybe you would have.
But the thought didn’t cross your mind as you invited them in. Nothing crossed your mind in fact. It was too rapidly filling with fuzzy foggy feelings. They stepped over the threshold, and, as they drew themselves to their full height, looked down on you.
“Such a feast, my new toy. You mind is so eager to give itself over to me, isn’t it?” You nodded, not really in control at this point. Your internal voice had been becoming less and less important. When you opened the door, the new voice had begun to talk.
It whispered such pleasant things. Such nice things. How good you were. How easy it was to follow along when your mind was filled with all this fog. You were overpowered so easily. But that wasn’t a problem. Nothing was a problem anymore. All you had to do was obey.
