Your parents had been surprisingly cooperative and understanding when you told them about your school crush. You mentioned it in passing, a casual remark as you all enjoyed breakfast. There was, of course, the initial shock: your father choked on his coffee and began coughing uncontrollably, and your mother gripped her little teaspoon with such strength that the metal bent all the way down, utensil folded in half.
“Is there a problem with it,” you hesitantly probed.
“Of course not, darling,” your mother cooed with a smile, “we’re happy for you.”
The rest of the meal went smoothly; you briefly told them the basics about your newfound romance, then moved on to other school topics. They paid no mind.
Which is what made you so suspicious. They couldn’t have been satisfied with just a name and a class. You know your parents too well. You normally can’t bring up anyone of novelty without them employing a fully fledged interrogation process. As a matter of fact, it had been quite the sore spot and sparked the most recent argument – when you found them outside your school grounds, dressed in their investigation attire, photographing the classmate who was supposed to come over for a group project.
You can’t steal their data like that, you asserted at the time.
We’re just worried for you, they explained sheepishly.
Well, I can judge for myself, you concluded. They could only nod in defeat, promising to trust your ability to engage with others without endangering yourself.
Yet, once more, you know your parents. They would’ve just gotten sneakier with their methods, avoiding your detection. They must be underestimating your time spent at the Yandere Academy, honing your stalking skills.
“I bet they’re hiding somewhere around,” you mumble to yourself, rustling the bushes by the entrance gate. If you are to follow their past behaviour, they should be gathering DNA bits from your crush, who just walked past a couple of hours ago.
“I wonder what (Y/N) is looking for,” your crush ponders, brows furrowed in confusion. They’re observing you from the nearest roof, binoculars resting on the edge. Wait a damn minute, that’s the trashcan where they threw their lunch leftovers! Could it be that you’re into them as much as they’re into you?! Good Lord, to think you have something in common! They too like to rummage the trash for bits dropped behind by you! Their chest heaves up and down in delirious excitement.
Further back, camouflaged against the brick wall, your mother clicks her tongue.
“Poor technique”, she angrily whispers to your father. “You always check for rivals who could be lurking the perimeter. How can we trust this amateur with our beloved (Y/N)?”
“Honey, please, give them a chance,” the man retorts, calibrating his scanners.
Ah, to be young and in love.
