🕑 Added 2024-10-04 19:44:59 +0000 UTCThe quiet 4,000-person town of Charleroi has experienced an influx of an estimated 700 - 2,000 predominantly Haitian migrants in the last 2 years. 5 years ago, 12 students were learning English as non-native speakers here: In 2024, that number has ballooned to 225 with the school supervisor claiming “diversity is our superpower”.
With locals claiming there has been an increase in the cost of living, competition for housing, car accidents, and overall social resource drainage, the new Haitian residents claim they have economically revived the otherwise dying town by providing a fresh labor supply and starting new businesses.
I showed up myself to Charleroi, camera in hand, to see how the town is handling the influx of migrants, if they are assimilating to American culture, how they got here in the first place, if they’ll be voting, and if they’re an economic asset or liability to the town.

Every ethnic group was persecuted when they came here but our government was pro-constitution back then, now we have parts of the government who is pro-communist. People who came here assimilated into American society, these new immigrants who come here are not.
