He should have been honest.
"Yes Daddy, I made a stinky and I need a diaper change."
That's how he should have responded when Daddy asked him if his diaper was full. But instead he just shook his head and tried to go on playing as if nothing was wrong.
Normally Daddy didn't bat an eyelash when this happened. It was never difficult to catch Mav in his lie. A simple diaper check usually did the trick if the smell or diaper droopage didn't give it away outright. But not fessing up to dirty diapers was becoming a concerningly frequent habit for Mav. Maybe this time, it was time to teach him a lesson.
"Well if you're not stinky, then I guess we don't need to change you before your nap," Daddy said matter-of-factly.
"But—umhff.…" Before Mav could protest, Daddy shoved a pacifier into his mouth and ushered him into the crib.
Mav stared at Daddy in disbelief as the man latched the crib gate and made for the doorway. The boy had accomplished his goal of avoiding a diaper change, but he'd failed to prolong his playtime. Worse, now he'd have to deal with the foul-smelling load in his pants for another hour at least.
"Lie down and say night night, kiddo," Daddy cooed smugly as he shut off the lights.
The boy did as he was told, though he couldn't bring himself to lie down fully due to the unpleasant sensation of his poopy squishing against his rear. All he could do was rest his head on his pillow with his bum still in air and wait. This would not be a restful nap.
